Hello geeks,

I just wanted an opinion on something. I am working in a hair salon on a percentage basis and the owner has asked me to wear make up. The hairdressers here are quite heavy with the make up but they do look good. I am not a make up fan as for me I have extremely low self esteem and learning to love myself with out it and also I promote skin care and I personally don't see how I can sell products by a brand that I use on myself with make up? How is the client actually seeing result if I could be hiding anything under my make up? Am I wrong for telling her no?

I do understand as a beauty therapist we have to look clean and groomed which I do but I am beginning to feel like I am being pressured into something I don't want do :(.

I understand what you mean as a beauty therapist you need to look presentable but also you have to promote different skincare products by having flawless skin. Maybe you could compromise and wear no foundation but a little bit of mascara and eye liner, just enough to be noticeable but not loads of it?

Hope this helps.

I would be ok with the mascara but I think she wants more. If I was working in debenhams selling mac make up I could understand.

I'm self employed here so I think that I actually don't have to do as she says. I work in a spa also and they never tell me I must wear make up just be clean and presentable.

You don't have to do what she says. If you don't want to wear it tell her so and Stick to your guns.
We were taught in college minimal make up if any, it's a personal choice. x

I don't think you're wrong for saying no. If you're not comfortable wearing makeup, you shouldn't have to wear it.

If you don't want a full face of makeup, maybe try a tinted moisturiser or a BB cream? Then you aren't putting any heavy products onto your face, but you will still have a light coverage to keep your boss happy and a healthy glow

Point is she isn't your boss.
I personally wouldn't purely out of principle. I think it's rather insulting to be honest.

Thanks guys. I started to question myself slightly but I had a meeting with her and told her I am not actually obligated to wear anything. If I was working in Debenhams selling mac make up then yeah I would have 2 but I want to specialise more in skin care.

I have afro -caribbean skin so a tinted mosituriser wouldn't work for me lool but if you know one that does one for darker conplexions lol please let me know lol xxx

Possibly going to ruffle some feathers here.....but.....
Why not add a little lippy?.....o_O

I probably have a degree of 'Body dis-morphia', as I would NEVER dream of going out without 'MY FACE'.
It gives me confidence, just the same as my heels, as I'm a short ar*e.:(
Why not just try it...you never know, it might just give you a boost.;)
I dare you....let us know how you get on.:)

I also have afro-caribbean skin and i know when i have no make up on i look clean and presentable in my appearance. However, when i do have my make up on, clients approach me differently. Newer clients tend to have more confidence in me doing their treatment when i enhance my beauty through wearing make up.

I think it also depends what treatments you offer. I specialise in spray tans, waxing, lashes and make up. So i do kind of see myself as my own advertisement.

Maybe try, mascara, a clear gloss & some blusher! You dont need to go all out xx
