Hi
I need to do a basic manicure and pedicure course but, at the moment, I am unable to attend a college because of family commitments. Does anyone know of a good course I can study at home?

Why dont you contact your local college and ask exaclty what courses they have to offer....you could do an evening course? Depending where you are, it can be 6 hours per week spread over two evenings. Just be careful with the study at home ones, because you may have trouble getting insurance once you have qualified :)

I really cannot begin to imagine how you can learn manicures & pedicures at home, as like any skill part of it needs to be demonstrated. Rather than engage in a course that may ultimately prove a waste of time perhaps it is worth looking for a course that you can attend or wait until you have more free time? I know of a few therapists who are also single parents & they managed to find part time courses that suited their needs.

Hello! Would you be able to attend a day course? 1 day for manicure and a day for pedicure?
You can check around the good companies to see what they offer, where they are located and how much they cost... then make up your mind where to attend...
From all the great info I have gotten from this website, Creative (CND) Ezflow seem to get rave reviews!
I'm starting too, and am always on the lookout for advice, tips, hints etc on training...
Best of luck in the search!:)

Sorry perhaps I didnt explain very well. I'm not a single mum. I am full time carer for an elderly person who lives with us. He has mutiple health problems and cannot be left alone. As my husband is self employed and works irregular hours it makes it difficult for me to commit to a set time. However, I have managed to find a 1 day course quite near to where I live so I'm going to make some enquiries

I am not a great lover of home courses to be honest I think they are a waste of time and money. Nothing beats hands on experience with a tutor.
One day courses are ok as refreshers I think but I don't think you can be fully competent in one day.
I know people who have done this type of training and are not even confident to carry out the treatment. Clients will ask you a lot of questions ' why are my nails growing out ridged?' 'Why are my cuticles splitting?' etc ...by doing a one day course are you going to be confident enough to answer these questions confidently? xxx

I totally agree with kylieb. I done my nvq2 in nails, which amongst other things covered manicure and pedicure. When I research training courses now, I see there are loads for manicure/pedicure on a one day course each. If I was to look back now, there is no way I would be able to do it. Going into it completely new without knowing anything, I know for a fact I wouoldnt be competant enough. My course was 38 weeks long, and even now, I could get stuck! Not with the basic routine of a mani/pedi, but like kylieb said, questions that you may be faced with. And all that anatomy!! Could never of done it without the aid of tutors to be there and help etc... I think those day courses are that they teach you it all in one day, but then for a few months you have to go back and learn it at home, then go back for an exam. The one i read was like that (the carlton institue). Maybe it would be worth waiting until your fully ready to commit? That way, you can go with a reputable company with the aid of tutors etc... Hth x

Hi,
I am not sure where you are in the Uk but The Carlton Institute offer 1 day Manicure & Pedicure course which is a good introduction then you can support this with a home study NVQ or IHBC?
Good luck

If it is something you are looking at taking seriously and pursuing as a career I would recommend doing it the right way the first time and taking the correct courses over the shortest period of time that works for you. If you do a 1 day course you will get a general knowledge but be left with many questions and not ready to practice IMO.

I agree and actually beg you not to do a home learn (man/ped) as you WILL regret it. x

Good luck with finding a suitable classroom course. x
