wanted something that I could easily do from home to fit around the children. Before I had children I used to work in Central Manchester doing Accounts. Can you see how appealing nails/beauty from home was!

I love polishes and nail art, painting and doing my own nails. When I finally considered going to school to learn more about it all the school I found out closed down. A couple of years later hubby and I went to Las Vegas, well, did I ever see lots of nails there. Every woman and then some we came across in the casinoes, hotels, restaurants you name it had gorgeous nails and all painted up. By the time we got home I was determined, but I didn't have to wait long after that as someone new reopened the school and I was in there now. The timing wasn't good as we had a young son at home and hubby just quit his job and the money was tight, I was waitressing part time but was still very determined. Got a school grant and was on my way. The rest is history, have been in the same salon for almost 7 years now and loving it.

started as a client but being a military wife who moves around i had probably been to more techs than most, some have been great had jessica, the edge, creative and allessandro trained techs plus a few others. the girl trained by jessica was the best and seemed to live and breath nails, i then (stupidly) let a friend who had just qualified put on my first set of l+p and and the end result was that i had to go without my beloved nails for the first time in 8 years. i`ve been in hairdressing for 20 years and also offer airbrush tanning as its very new here in germany so i finally decided to try my hand at nails and i`m loving it. i`m really intrested in the creative side and would love to do comps eventually.

I got started mostly because of a lifestyle change - health reasons forcing me to give up full time employment. Though to be fair I had been facinated by the process when accompanying my wife to have hers done. Always been crafty/hands on projects, so seemed a natural oppotunity to go a different direction in my life.

I was a nail virgin so to speak, never been in a salon, never had my nails done by anybody, grew up watching my sister biting her nails and paying a fortune to have enhancements, i always looked after my nails was always painting them and doing designs on them and friends used to say i should do it as a job but i would laugh and say "no i cant i dont know anything about putting on false nails" then one day i was reading cosmo mag and saw the ad for training at creative and thought what the hell its got to be more fun than sitting at home all day so i booked my foundation course and i cant wait to be able to afford all the other courses now and i love doing nails and all the art work

Beauty industry first attacted me about 19yrs ago. I was a hairdresser/makeup artist. I started wearing enhancements because I was a nail biter, but hated having them look like everyone elses... so started doing art.
My first nail art was candy cane striped nails for xmas. I was 16yrs old.

Later years, I became a 'client' and stopped wearing "lee-press-ons"

I wasn't happpy with my tech's abilities, nor prices...
So took a course...

Then much later on.. wanted to work from home... and here I am today, with 2 more courses under my belt, and more courses to come.

I love doing nails more than anything else I've ever done. I HATE slow client weeks, that's when I harass friends to let me do their nails for free, just for the fun of it LOL

It all started for me when I was about 11-12 and I started to paint my own nails and do nail art on them, then as I got older and better, friends and family would ask me to do theirs aswell, this was just manicures and polishes, french mainly, but some wanted colour and a bit of art.
I then decided I wanted to be an 'actor' DAHLING!! so did performing arts in college and got a Diploma for that...I soon saw the light and realised I could never air kiss anybody with a straight face....so went onto do Complimentary Therapy. I had, lets say a rather vulgar client, and I just couldnt face it again.....

It took years of saving and alot of guts from me and my husband, but now Im doing the whole lot, with Creative and Im loving it...wish Id done it years ago.

Its my dream, my passion, I could do it all day and not even think about it. To me this will not be a job, more of a hobby, something I enjoy so much.

Cant wait to experience more! :)

When I left college back in 1992 there were very few beauty salons then, especially up here, and thinking there was going to be a glut of therapists fighting for the same jobs, I decided that doing nail enhancements would give me the edge over the competition.

Which it did.

I got my first job in Aug just after leaving college in the June.

I didnt fall in love with extensions immediately but they grew on me and do far more nails than anything else.

i was like cathie, never had a nail done, never seen an extension, couldnt understand how it would all work,
but hated my job, so much needed something to get my teeth into, that i could do around my job whilst at home, took a home learning course , and never looked back!!

Hi David, hows Mrs G's foot?
Nails, I was a client of Rae's and it took me ages to find her, in fact she was the first decent nail tech I had found around here and then she droped the bomb shell, she was moving back to Canada:eek:, I was dead chuffed for her but asked her what I was going to do :irked: and she told me to go to creative and become a nail tech myself. Thought about it for a while and then did it:lol:

I wanted to do nails and beauty when I left school but did hairdressing cause my friend did. I hated it then did office work while the children were small. I always messed around with my nails and loved all the girly stickers and accessories. When my youngest child got a bit older I decided to go to college and do my manicure and pedicure and now I love everything about nails. If i make some money in the bargain then thats good. But I do nails first and foremost because its a passion.:)

I had been having my nails done from the age of fifteen and only once found a technician i loved.

I moved away and since then i watched, looked and thought i can do better than that !

I had been buying products and doing my own (not very well but cheaper and almost satisfactory ) when i was training as a hairdresser. We had to do an enrichment course, manicure and pedicure.

I found i loved doing it and i was good at it,so when i had completed i went on to nail enhancements.Tbh the girls in my group always wanted to be my model, they said i was better than the tutor.

I then did cnd l+p induction ,lot's more training to go though !

The rest as they say is history !

Hi David
I couldn't find the right direction with my career and everything I tried just didn't feel right.
I've always been creative and I love being pampered, put both together and signed myself up for a night course (VTCT) at local college and it all started from there.
Once you get into nails you soon realise there are so many different paths to take and its all fun!!
From the college course I signed up for more and other local academies including Hyperion and from there I ventured into beauty.
Love my career but so much more to do and learn!!

I was always the girl at school with multi-coloured nails decorated with permanent pens or tip-ex. Always been interested in the art side, but never got round to doing anything about it until i was 26, and that was only cos my cousin had just enroled in a beauty course and i though i could do that.

i spent a long time haveing my nails done, it was a painfull smelly uncomfortable experience and i was paying for it, then i got a greenie and asked for the extension to be removed, the salon removed the extension then filed over the greenie trying to tell me that this would stop it comeing back, i didnt know about mma. e-files, nss salons, but i did guess there must be another way without the pain and infection so hubby helped me look on the net and make a decision to train in nails, that was 18 months ago and i havent looked back, i love it, i can also combine my love of art with my love of nails:)

Hello! Newbie here!!
I haven't started yet, but have got info coming out of my ears for a course so I can start soon. I am looking for a career change. I am a self employed decorator/interior designer at the moment. Fancy a change and have enjoyed 'playing' with the gems, decals and rhinestones on myself and friends. I am really looking forwards to gaining the proper qualifications and being able to start this new venture...more excited than I thought I would be. This site has helped me soooooooooo much too,,,,,,thanks everyone!!!

Hi David

In 1997 I saw an article in a woman's magazine about the spice girls and how (I think in particular Scary Spice) had their nails painted. They had airbrushed nails!, particularly the tigher print design. Not ever hearing about airbrushing on nails I was fascinated and contacted K-Sa_ra whose name was at the bottom of the article - the rest is history

when i was 40 years old, and was due to re-marry. i had my nails done for the occasion, then thought i wish i could do that. After a few years my daughter asked me to accompany her to start the Nail technology course. i obliged, but after the first night, my daughter stopped going to college, as she was bored by the fact that we had to learn about the fingernail anatomy/physiology first and manicure, whereas i carried on. i found it very interesting, as i didn't realise there was so much to learn about the fingernail.
i then got myself enrolled onto different courses, to learn more and more about this profession, which i did... and the rest as they say .... is history

I've always loved painting my own nails but when I got married almost 3 years ago I had Acrylics done. I was completely fascinated by it and watched intently. After my honeymoon I started thinking more and more about nails and in the end I took the plunge and started training. I haven't looked back since!!

The idea of doing nail art attracted me at first until I realised how deep the nail industry actually went. Now it's the idea that you never stop learning new techniques, products etc that keeps me totally hooked. Yeh man!
