Hi just wondering what is your take on massaging men???
I have massaged men but always left left the groin area!
now I have been asked todo a massage on friends hubby but he’s suffering with his groin from playing football!
would you massage men in this area???

Hi Bella, I have no problem massaging men - a lot of my clients are male (I'm female). I'd also have no problem working in the groin area if I knew the person was suffering in this area. I just treat it as a non-issue - it's another part of the body and the body (male & female) is a wonderful thing. The bloke will probably be more nervous than you are, so if you're going to do it then just try & be confident and go for it. For all they know - you might be attracted to females so it's no longer the issue I'd say it was a good few years back. One piece of advice I'd always give is if you're doing a man and you're in a relationship - let your bloke know you massage men. One colleague I worked with couldn't bring herself to tell her husband she massaged men, then one day she was 'hit on' by a man and she couldn't tell her husband that either, even though she was badly shaken! For me, my bloke knows I massage men, I'm known for massage for male & females and I'd have no problem in massaging friend's hubby. Hope that helps.

Yes my hubby knows I tend to only massage men if I no them or through a mutha friend. You have to be careful don’t you!

I would have thought if he has a groin strain then he should see a GP, physio or sports therapy massage.

I wouldn't massage him in this area. Stick to your normal limits. They are there for a reason.

.Many of us have learnt intuitively how to do a wonderful massage, but that doesn’t make it ethical to take payment for a specific request and wing it.

There’s nothing wrong with massaging in the groin area in principle (in the UK) but there is plenty wrong with massaging any area of the body with an issue if you haven’t been adequately trained. You really need at least a level 4 qualification to treat strains. If it’s a strain it needs particular techniques outside the scope of a level 3 course

A course will help you manage the conversation and practice draping. There should be no possibility of accidental inappropriate touching. The groin area should remain covered at all times so it’s often easiest to work through a drape.

I had people with quite serious conditions recommended to come to me for my “healing hands”. I decided to train with Jing so that I could treat the people who were seeking me out. I found out that I had been instinctively doing a lot of helpful stuff, but I also discovered how much I didn’t know.

I personally wouldn’t, I would say that is more of a Sports/Remedial Specialist Massage with some physio stretching exercise as pre and after care.
If you are a confident therapist with knowledge and training/qualifications on this area and feel comfortable then go for it.
If not, I would refer them on to somewhere else which specialises in sports injuries as you could make the problem worse (bruising, ligaments, tendons, muscle) and the client might pick up on any awkwardness if you are not comfortable.
Each therapist is different and comfortable with different techniques and massage requests, just do whatever feels comfortable for yourself.

Don’t feel you need to do it just because it’s a request.... as fab as we all are at our therapies sometimes we can’t fix every clients problems and recognising the need for further referral is part of being a experienced therapist.
It’s best to be honest with your client if you feel they would get better results with a different service.

Perhaps if it’s an option for yourself you could look into a day workshop in sports massage in the future? Having that extra knowledge and advice sometimes can make a big difference.
I worked as a Senior in a very posh high end spa for 7 years and my team would not massage the stomach or groin area on men but every therapist is different.

I’ve been massaging for 5 years now but was never taught to massage a groin, so I would never try. It’s not the sort of thing that I feel you can wing, as if someone has already got an injury there you do t want to make it worse. I’d recommend a sports massage therapist. To be honest, I wouldn’t be all that comfortable doing that area on a man anyway.

I agree 100%

Agree with the above thank you all for the feedback. X

Agreed. I also only have new male clients when my husband is home in the evening, usually will have him show them in.

As much as I’m a feminist, the amount of women murdered by men...(I listen to a murder podcast)...I just don’t like to chance it.

I once didn’t follow my own rule as the man seemed harmless. The session ended with him hitting me (yes, hitting not hitting on) during a back massage after he got a boner and got embarrassed (or creepy, still not sure) and me having to restrain him with his arm behind his back and chuck him out. He Had asked about working out when the conversation was and how much I bench. I had glossed over it as I don’t like men to know I’m strong so if they prey on me I can handle them and I have the element of surprise (it’s a sick world I have to do this it’s not the first time). Needless to say I could bench him and he was Clearly shaken that he had tried to attack me and been shown who’s boss in my house.

So yeah...as much as I’d like to think we are safe...we are never truly safe. Never be alone with a male client unless you can handle yourself in a fight and win.

And never massage groins. My husband has a disease that led to muscle and bone loss in his femur head. He can’t even open his legs as the muscle is dying and the bone is now grown the wrong way and stuck and he is in pain everyday. The muscle feels like bone it’s so hard. He would never ever expect a female therapist to massage it for him even though he needs it. Because it’s just not ok unless it’s a doctor in a hospital. So any man needing groin massage gets a no from me unless we are married.

Good for you! 🥰 <high five>

Hopefully might have taught the vile creep a lesson. 🤬
