hi
im studying sweedish massage at the moment there are lots and lots of carrier oils to use for body massage at the mo ive just used sweet almond oil which is nice can anyone reccommend any others as there are too many to chose from ?
many thanxs emma xx:cool:

Hi emma,

I really like the Bio Solutions (NSI) one which you can add one of the three different fragrances to - I love the Lavender and the Citrus ones.

The good thing about this oil is that it contains a few of the same oils which SolarOil contains so it is a great compliment to my manicures.

Hi Emmalouisa

Are you just doing the VTCT swedish body massage or doing an aromatherapy course? If you are doing just the swedish massage course you will not be qualified to use aromatherapy oils, and it may also be stated in your insurance. I assume this is what you want to use as you are asking about carrier oils?

If you are not doing the aromatherapy massage course you will need to use an oil that is pretty bland so there is no risk of causing an allergic reaction. Nut oils can cause an allergic reaction if your client is allergic to nuts. Check with your tutor on this but this is what mine told me re oils and swedish massage.

If you wish use oils then you will have to do the aromatherapy massage course and I believe there are about 40 different oils to learn about.

Hope this helps

Hi
thanxs for ure advice im doing sweedish massage vtct at the moment when i complete that i m then doing vtct aromatherapy, my tutor said i would be able to use pre blended oils for sweedish massage and to follow manufactorers advice ?

Hi Emmalouisa

Thanks for your reply, I can see why your tutor would say preblended, it's when you have to mix your own you need specialist knowledge. I will check with my tutor again about preblended oils as it would be nice to be able to use them.

Good luck with the aromatherapy course, was debating on doing that myself, but may go on to remedial.

I would recommend Grapeseed oil as a nice alternative to Sweet Almond - its a tiny bit thicker than Sweet Almond and has a slight odour, but is very nourishing and great for dry skin.

Anyone can use a preblended aromatherapy oil. It has been blended by a professional and will state any limitations as to its use. If there are any queries then these can be addressed to the supplier, the same as any other professional product.
I recommend Absolute Aromas http://www.absolute-aromas.com/
as they are a very professional company, who have been around a while. The quality of the oils used is excellent. See here:

for their range of blends. They are also moving into more spa and beauty ranges as well.
Tissarand are another excellent company, very highly respected.

Bay House Aromatics are another good company

That should be plenty to get you started!

Thanxs for your help yoga cat great website s will be odering some pre blended oils asap xx

WAt base oils dont have nut in them? do alot of people suffer from nut allergies?

It's not all that common, but you should ask as part of your consultation about allergies.
It's best if you ask whoever you decided to order from really, as they will know what is in the individual blends.

hi, I decide depending on the skin, generally, grapeseed is fine. I usually only use sweet almond on the face - i hate the feeling of grapeseed on the face :irked:

sometimes i use avocado which is good for really dry skin and also cellulite

depends on the client and your preference.

can't help you with pre-blended oils as I do my own.

Evening Primrose oil is a good oil for woman. Avacardo's good but you'd need to mix with another carrier oil because its thick.

I've got Almond oil and apricot mixed together at the moment that smells nice and its nice to apply, smooth.

If you used pre blended oils, you'd still have to be careful, you'd have to know what the contraindications were for that particular oil. So if you did decide to use them I'd read up first, otherwise you could run into problems.
