10 days ago I did some NNO for a lady who wanted her nails to be a good 1.5cm over the free edge, so no filing down. I've never done any that length before and was worried they wouldnt stand up to daily life.

Sure enough, she's just called to say that 3 have cracked across the middle and she didnt think my system was strong enough - she came to me from a NSS .

I dont mind and have managed to mostly get over my dread of new clients LOL, so I accepted defeat well.

Does anyone know if that length is reasonable and if so how much longer do you reckon you can go?

I have a few client with NNO on long nails...but these clients are used to long nails and don't have the sort of jobs that can damage them. I do make these nails thicker...and I do build up the stress area ... I also make the clients aware that their nails are THEIRS and so as they choose to have them this long i cant be held responsible if they break...All repairs are charged.

If she is used to MMA then its difficult as she will be used to "rock hard nails r us" ..... and it can take time to adjust. xxx

I would think a lot of it would be to do with the client's lifestyle, job, etc. I have a friend who has incredibly long NNOs (I don't do them for her, I'd be too scared ) and I don't think she's ever broken a nail!

 Beat me to it Angie!

I agree it is important to use thicker product and to build more strength into the stress area. What system are you using?

My sis has extenstion tips that are up to about 2.5/3cm free edge which obviously is a bit different but works on a similar principle. I have learnt over the many years I've been doing her that the stress area is vastly different to a standard balanced set of nails. She rarely breaks them as she respects her nails and the huge amount of time it takes to work on them. If she was a paying client I'd also consider charging her more as there is a much larger amount of product and the rebalancing of her nails takes much longer than a standard nail.

Also, recently did nail art on a client for a tv show and she had nno with mma that were 3cm+ at least I thought they were nno until she turned her hands over and there was no natural free edge underneath - the nss had e-filed her natural free edge off . It was horrible dread to think what her nails looked like underneath - shredded to pieces I'm sure. Never seen such horrid nno's. Just thought I'd share that with you... sorry for rambling

Thanks for the feedback, its helped me a lot. Im glad in way she's decided to make alternative arrangements (probably gonna go back to the NSS!!) as Im sure I would end up worrying myself to death over them.

Having never really done any so long before, I kinda thought it was my fault.
