Is it normal to have a thin reddish lines on the skin after microdurmadrasdion? When I was trained I was told that it is ok because the crystal flow can leave those marks on the skin and that they shouldn't last longer then a day. How do you prevent it from happening? Sometimes it's called tiger stripes and it commonly seen after the procedure on very sensitive skin. Have you ever had any experience with those?

I had microdermabrasion where the vacumn suction caused very bad broken blood vessels in a cross hatching pattern on my neck I was not very happy as it lasted over a week before it disappeared!- I think mine was caused by incompetence though!

Is it capillary damage? and did it definately happen with the crystals rather than the suction. I have no idea whether this is normal but it makes me wonder what parts of the skin the machine misses out if it works in lines! I would assume erythema would be expected but thin reddish lines sound wrong. I would think keeping the power low and holding the skin taught would reduce this from happening.

I am amazed microdermabrasion is even recommended for very sensitive skin.

Sorry I can't be of any real help!

Some erythema in places, for some clients is normal and as is said above should not last more than 24 hrs. However, red stripes i don't think so! Sounds like there was too much pressure with the handset or too high a setting for the skin type.

For all new clients a patch test should be carried out on the inner wrist to check for allergy to crystals and their sensitivity and always do light pressure on low setting for first couple of treatments to asess their skins reactions, all being well you can then increase setting if needed.

Microdermabrasion is a fab treatment as long is done carefully and correctly.

Hi,
Don't know if this is the problem, but when I had my microdermabrasion training, my trainer who was brilliant and really knew her stuff advised me to do the strokes in a criss cross pattern of about an 1-2 inch widths at a time because she said that doing long stroken could cause lines.

so this is what I do, I go in a downward pattern first, then over the same area going across, I make sure my pressure is light and obviously as previously said start with a light setting and increase it as the course of treatments go on.

My clients love these treatments and I've never had a problem yet.

Hope this help

Regards Heather

That technique sounds great. I was told to do it in long lines, so I reckon the technique I use can cause this lines. The training I had was 5 years ago, I think I need to go for a refresh course.

I never leave a stripes on a clients face! Like Heatherp, I use slightly lighter and shorter stripes, on the 1st pass in one direction and the opposite direction on the 2nd pass. Occasionally the client will have some erythema which is more in the areas I concentrate on after the 1st passes.

I am fanatical about this treatment and love the results that it gives people. Me especially!

As I said, my trainer was absolutely fab and so knowledgable I feel very confident doing this treatment and my clients are over the moon.

Could anyone recommend a good microdurmadrasion course in Dublin? Thanks
