Mobile hairdressers taking baby with them?

I built up my clientele during maternity leave and so clients knew that I would have a newborn soon.
It was ok for me because my partner worked 4 on 4 off and I worked on his days off.
But some clients were so desperate for hair that they begged me to come even with baby!
Some insisted actually and love to spoil my daughter.
Don’t assume that everyone will hate babies or that people will think its unprofessional, I still always gave great hair and have kept clients for years.
Clients love that I’m a mum and am quite happy (within reason) to be flexible when they have babies to look after too.

Also, would never just ‘turn up’ with a child!
Would always say things like ‘well I can do your hair that day but I have my daughter, or you can book this day when I don’t’
My daughter is very good and has built her own friendships with my clients kids. Great for half term bookings, play dates and work, two birds one stone!

I suppose it must depend on the type of clientele. I have close relationships with a lot of my clients too, but not to the point where I would bring my private life with me to their houses and potentially ‘bring down’ their haircut experience (not that it always would, obviously). I charge quite a lot because I live in an expensive part of London and my clients have very high standards when it comes to the ‘experience’. They literally want it to be like a salon experience at home, rather than just friends bringing kids round to play etc. It must depend on the area and type of clientele

Definitely different clientele.

I only have a handful of clients where I take her, the kids go off on their tablets and we crack on with hair.
I’m a high price too with a waiting list and booked up weeks on end.
Most people are envious of our jobs where we can work around the children and are able to bring them if we need to.
I don’t think I’m any less professional, it’s just more relaxed in some people’s homes.

I have plenty where I’d never suggest it!
It’s just personal preference and how comfortable you feel in someone’s home

How are you covered insurance wise?

Are you asking me or the op?

I think it’s a generic question of anyone that takes their children to someone’s house when they’re charging them for a professional service.

For instance, if your child accidentally knocked over your tint bowl and it splashed onto the carpet and a sofa or the nude wood kitchen doors and stained them. Presumably, your insurance wouldn’t cover you in that instance?

Or, if your child toddled and then fell on a stone hearth badly cutting their head leaving a permanent scar on their forehead? You probably couldn’t claim on the householders insurance.

I’ve never checked with my insurance as I’ve never felt the need to.
I am fully in control of my child she would be no where near my colour or electrical items!

As for her falling I find that irrelevant as she could fall anywhere?

As it happens we do have specialist insurance in case of illness and accident but not tied to my job.

I was surprised at some of the responses to the question, I’m just trying to give another side to the op that it doesn’t make her any less professional or a bad hairdresser/parent.
As long as the client is happy I really don’t see the issue.

I’ve been highly trained at a well known reputable salon in London and still go to training courses now.
My clients have over the years become parents themselves and they know that I can be flexible with them.
Not all clients are children hating snobs, and I wouldn’t want them anyway!
I’m very happy with my lot, I’m lucky to have the clients I have and I appreciate them and they appreciate me.
That’s all that matters!

I worked really hard to be able to work for myself and didn’t want to let having a baby stop me. Clients have supported me throughout my career I’ll always be loyal to them too.

I’ve always thought that’s a massive bonus of this job, never had to put my child in the care of others or pay childcare costs.
She gets to spend time with me and watch me working hard.
Like I said before she also plays well with other clients children and can hold a decent conversation with most people.
