Mobile nail repair?

I did my first set of nails last week and I have just had a text message from the client saying that one whole nail has now come off.:irked:

I will be asking her for more details, which one, how etc but I'm going to have to go back to her house and repair it.

Should I charge for this, especially if it turns out that it was down to my application? If so what does everyone else charge?

I guess that is a downside of being mobile, having to return with all the kit just for one nail.:rolleyes:
 
What I charge for repairs depends on where the client is, and if I'm in that area for any other reason......

For example: I charge £3.50 per standard repair if (a) the client comes to me, or (b) they are only a mile or 2 away (so the petrol cost for the round trip at 40p per mile is less than £2) or (c) I'm doing another service a mile or 2 away from that client so can get there without incurring much additional cost.

If the client is further away, I charge a minimum (again this depends on the mileage involved).

Tbh, single repairs do my head in. By the time you've set up and put away as well as waited for the l+p to set you've been there half an hour......:irked:

i think you should definately charge because if you dont they will expect it every time!

i will not go to a client for one nail repair, they either wait and have it fixed at their infill appointment, or come to me for me to repair the nail, or i charge a minimal call out which is £15 i would not go out to repair just for £3-4 . i have allways told my clients this from the offset and it has worked well.......usually when my mobile clients have broke a nail they wait or pop into my house for the repair.
i would ring her back and offer her the options..in a polite way
a) wate until next rebalance appointment and get the repair included in the price
b) she pops to you for the repair and you can charge a single nail fee
c) make sure you have a minimal fee ie cost of either manicure or rebalance or your cheapest mobile service you offer and tell her you wont do mobile visits for anything less
i know its sounds strict but you have to have rules in place you cant be going out and fixing a nail for a few quid but taking a good hour for travel and setting up time......its your time you charge for at the end of the day

Yep, excellent advice, this is how I worked when I was mobile. It really is the only way

I don't have any available rooms in my house for treatments, only my lounge which would have my kids around!!:rolleyes: So I guess I will have to go to her.

But what if it turns out that it was my application which was faulty? I did struggle to get the tips on because her nails were quite severly bitten and the skin was very bulbous (sp?) and the tips of the finger so perhaps that was the cause. Should I still charge then?

With nails like this I would warn them on the first appointment that enhancements on nail biters are very tempremental due to the habit they have of attacking their nails. This puts the responsiblity on them and I would also warn them that there will be a minimum call out charge for any repairs.
 
they were all on when you left .... and the other 9 are fine....CHARGE HER !!...you didn't break the nails...she did.

if you don't charge her now you will be making a rod for your own back...why should she take care when you will pop over and repair it for nothing...??...

I would also warn them that there will be a minimum call out charge for any repairs.

This is something which I hadn't even thought about to be truthful.:irked:

I have made a temporary draft of my price list and I'll have to amend it to add something about nail repairs and costs.

Yep, only a couple of miles away and she also found me my second client based on her nails so I do want to keep her happy.

Its just like others have said I really ought to start as I mean to go on and not make decisions now that I may live to regret.

As this is perhaps one of your first paying clients bear in mind that you would like to keep her as a regular client. I would go and do the repair if she's not too far away and charge her £5?? to cover your petrol and products and as a gesture of goodwill. Ask her to give you the nail so that you can check it too. She could well appreciate you returning and not mind paying for it...then you will have one regular happy client.
A minimal call out fee is needed on your price list to avoid any confusion for the clients...it's not a free service.
Tell her the other 9 are ok and she has probably banged one without realising..ie it didn't just fall off. But as Gigi says SMILE when you say it hun.

Just an update -

I have seen her nails and 3 have come off!! Although she did admit that the thumb nail came off whilst texting, one when stacking chairs and another she knocked! So I don't feel so bad about it now.:rolleyes:

Unfortunately I can't get a mutally convenient time until Friday night and due to being a biter I have suggested that we did a rebalance anyway and that 3 repairs would be done free of charge.

I told her the price (£18.50) and she was happy with that.

So fingers crossed that she won't lose any more between now and then.:lol:
