Hi,

I wanted some advice on what steps to take as a Mobile Nail Technician.
I qualified in July 2008, and practice on family and friends.

I would like to advance this further, any advice on what i would need to start me off as a mobile business.

Hi, I have just started out doing mobile, I have my insurance and you need to have your electricals PAT tested if they are over 12 months old (I think you need your receipts to prove it) I have my fold up table and everything else fits nicely into a large holdal that I have, lots of advertising and away I go, Only been doing it about a month now but getting clients phone all the time, lots of people booking in for Christmas so all going well. Good luck with your business it can be really great fun meeting lots of new people I am really enjoying it.

Hi claire,

Thank you for your reply. Where did you obtain insurance to do mobile nails? And what kind of equipment have you started with? I have qualified in Acrylic,Fibreglas,Overlays and Gel. Any suggestions where i could buy a drilling machine from, and a folding table?

Hi, I got my insurance from the guild, it covers you just fine for mobile, I was lucky enough to have a friend giving up mobile so I pinched her table, I got a great daylight lamp from my wholesaler as I really can't work without one, i get head aches if I strain my eyes, lol. I do mostly gel nails so I have my lamp and kit in a holdal, works great from me but everyone is different, hope it all goes well for you. Cx

hi,

Ya definetly worth it!

I know its seems quite hard to start off mobile. Do you do Gel nails? what king od gel do you use? any idea where to buy a drilling machine?

hi claire,

Thanks for the insurance details.
What type of gel do you use? cause ive heard of so many, dry gel, liquild gel, balance gel!
What is the normal one everyones uses? when you do acyrlics do u use a drill?

Hi Rita

I have my insurance with BABTAC, they will need to see your certificates in your chosen systems with your application to insure you but they are very helpful.

Who did you train with and what systems do you use? Perhaps you could seek advice from your educator about their training in the use of drills. Unless you have proper training to use them your insurance will not cover you for it.

I personall choose not to use a drill because, in the wrong untrained hands, they can do a significant amount of damage.

Also, it would be helpful if you put a little more detail in your profile. You say you qualiied in earlier this year but your profile just says you do acrylic. It will help when people are giving you advice. :)

i pass cards on to my clients so that they can pass them on and get more business that way

I bought my drill on ebay and then invested in some good drill bits x

I have been looking into going mobile too once ive completed my exam, I have a foldable table but do you need to bring chairs/stools along as well? If so how does everyone carry it all?

I do mobile and home based but dont have mobile chairs i always make sure before i go to a clients house that they have chairs!!!:green:

Id advise to take your own comfortable stool ..posture or saddle stool , using clients chairs can be a killer on your back.
