For those who are mobile...

- What PPE will you be offering clients/wearing yourself?

&

- How are you going about payments? Are you still taking cash or will you be going contactless by bank transfer, paypal or getting a card reader like sum up or similar?

I take clients at home, but sometimes go to theirs...

A mask, as necessary by gov't regulations. I'm asking them to wear their own mask as well. Single use latex/nonlatex gloves (which makes me so sad, I hate the waste, but what can you do?!). And I also have a spray bottle of a DIY disinfectant (vodka, water, vinegar, some essential oils) that I spray my clothes down with before and after seeing a client. And as always, sanitizing my equipment between clients.

I'll take cash if that's what they offer, of course. But I just started trying a contactless option as I prefer not having to stress and deal with it, you know? There's a contactless option through Fresha, and I haven't had a chance to fully try it out so far, but it looks really easy from my test runs!

The guidelines haven’t come out yet on the full ppe we may have to wear & the steps we need to take for sanitation/safety but definitely a mask at least & the therapist & client will both have to wear one. If client has there own mask, great, but will provide if they don’t. If they refuse to wear one....No mask...no appointment!!!
I’d say, don’t rush into buying too much yet as you may end up wasting money if you buy different ppe to what the guidelines state.

Payment wise, i’m looking at getting a card reader but for those clients that just have small treatments (say under £10) I will probably just take cash. At least with the new “plastic” money & coins you could sanitise the cash.

I had a couple of articles come up on my Facebook yesterday which are helpful for mobile/home salon workers but nothing is official yet. Here are the articles

Fab! Thanks so much

I was looking on the internet and wasnt sure if I was missing anything so glad it actually hasnt come out yet lol

I'm so worried a client will say they will wear a mask but then refuse on the day and I've got this awkward situation in their home but I guess that's my paranoia setting in

I would prefer card only because I hate cash myself Haha feel a bit on edge giving my account details to those that arent friends or family so will def have a look at Fresha that's a good idea regarding the "plastic" money!

I am going to let clients know whilst I am rebooking their appointments that they need to wear a mask. If they haven’t got their own I will give them a mask when they answer the door & ask them to put it on before I enter, failure to do so will result in me getting back in the car!!
I’m not usually so pushy & hard lol but i’m afraid the situation requires it! Don’t forget you’re doing them a service you make the rules.
Don’t forget also, you need to ask before your visit if either themselves or anyone in the household/or anyone they have come into contact with has been unwell (Covid symptoms or not) & it should only be yourself & the client in the room, NO children...husbands...friends! I can see myself possibly losing a few clients over this but hey ho, it’s only to protect myself & them & their families.
From experience, being a mobile therapist, clients are a lot less likely to cancel their appointment if they’re unwell as they are at home & don’t need to go out so really need to be careful.

Yeah that's what I was thinking as well! Or they wont be honest if anyone else in the household has been poorly. It's going to be so tough. I'm going to have to learn to be a bit harsher in the next few weeks I think which is out of character for me lol

Hi, obviously we'll need to follow the guidelines when they are issued to us but so far
•I have ordered an iZettle card reader(£22), which arrived in less than 24 hrs. If clients want to pay me cash they can count it into an envelope for me and it will stay unopened for a wk. I will not be giving change either.
•For myself I have plastic visors and face masks for myself, plastic disposable apron for every client.
•No hand mirrors, they will have to look in their own.
• I will sort individual tools at home and put clean combs, scissors, clips, etc in sandwich bags for each client, a small jar of barbicide for scissors in between uses.
•I'll ask them to clear and clean a worktop and I will put couch roll on it too. Obvs I will be hand washing and using sanitizer. 1bag for clean equipment, 1 bag for used.
• I would prefer to supply and charge client for their mask as I don't know whether the one they provide will be clean or of good quality. I'm considering putting it into a named envelope and bringing it back for them on my next visit (obvs need to research if this is allowed) in case I run into a problem with supplies.
•I have ordered disposable gowns but have shorter capes too.
• I'm sending them a health questionnaire and disclaimer online and will ask them to rebook if unwell.
• I also have a contactless thermometer which I will use on their doorstep before entering and obvs wont enter if they have a high temperature.
•I will be stressing that they will not be charged if they need to cancel last minute, I would prefer this to taking a risk.
•Also, any more vulnerable clients will get the first appt of the day before I enter any other houses.
•Also will do hair in their garden, weather permitting.

Would you mind sharing your ‘recipe’ for your DIY disinfectant please (measurements etc) as would be looking to use something like this too & looking for ideas?

A friend of mine has massage at home, and her therapist is supplying a couch cover that they keep and wash themselves. They do pay for this, but they have control and can wash it straight away.

I will be taking cash in envelopes if necessary, although most of my client s pay card.

I'm most interested in actual sanitizing- can that can be done effectively in terms of time, convenience, cost and ability to use the item again.

Research on DIY disinfectants, the alcohol may not be strong enough .
