As i`m a mobile tech i was just wondering how everyone is getting on with the no smoking ban. As in your clients not smoking while your there doing treatments.
I don`t smoke myself so i think its a great idea.
I have had to remind people that its an offence to smoke while i`m there working and they somehow think its a joke saying its their house only a few have took it seriously. Don`t get me wrong i haven`t gone in there laying down the law my clients know me well and i can have a laugh with them all, I`ve just been testing them to see who upholds the new law.
So how has everyone else got on?

I wasn't aware they actually couldn't? I remember reading something in the paper saying that when housing officers went to interview council tenants they could ask them to not smoke in the house whilst they were there (if they so desired) but that they could refuse and arrange to go into the housing office instead.

Anyway, should anyone be smoking if you are performing a treatment? Surely the majority of the products are highly flammable and the client should be told this beforehand? I smoke but wouldn't dream of letting anyone smoke while I am doing a treatment, I do let them have smoke breaks though!!

I've not had an issue to date, Jo. A few of my clients smoke but none smoke when I'm there. I only have one client who smokes so heavily that when I come out of her house all my clothes have to go in the wash - and that's only from the smell of the house, no 'fresh' smoke .

i`m under the impression that its not just council officers, its people in general who have to go to peoples houses to perform their work thus creating their place of work. Please any one correct me if i`m wrong.
but like cathy said they shouldn`t be smoking around the chemicals we use any way.

Yes I Have had clients light up. Then say I'll blow the smoke away from you. That was one of my main turning points to opening my home salon.
I may be a killjoy, but as I have never even tried a cigarette ever, I don't see why I should have to put up with it.
If my clients arrive by taxi and need to order one to go home. I let them use my phone to book it just before I do the gel coat on their nails, Naughty I know, but the taxi is ready when they are and they then can't smoke at my front door...............I am such a bad girl!!!
Lotsa luv x

I've never heard of this before for when we're in other peoples houses.

I did have a client last week who lit up while I was setting up. She was at the other end of the room, and I had my back to her, and by the time i'd got everything set up and turned round, she was just about to put it out.

If she had tried to smoke during the treatment I would have said something, but as this was before the treatment started and I only noticed as she was about to put it out, I didnt say anything.

Hi Jo-anne
most of my clients smoke and I really don't mind, there is no way that I will tell my client what to do in their house, to be honest if their smoking was bothering me I would not treatment but this is not an issue for me lol

doesn't bother me ..i'm a smoker myself & although i don't smoke in my own house ...i choose to smoke outside in the rain\hail\snow\thunder & lightening i would never tell my clients not to smoke in their own house.

I've never had a client that smoked before, during or after a service while I was there.

I know some of clients smoke, but none of them have ever lit up.

Though I would never tell a client whether they could or couldn not smoke in their own home, I would ask them not do do so during a service.

If they want to smoke before or after, I have no problem with that.

To be honest, I have never thought about the law being applicable to us in that the clients home becomes our "work area".

I suppose if it really bugs you, you could mention to them that you would appreciate if they didn't smoke in your presence.

For me personally, I'd rather them smoke than decide not to use me again because I'm being "difficult" in THEIR homes.
