Hi, I'm pretty new to the business and was just wondering what is the furthest you woul travel for a client being mobile? And if someone asks you to do them and it's too far, how do you tell the politely without them getting p'ed off!!! Do you add anything on to your prices etc??

Hello, first i would like to say that this is my first post i have been doin mobile for some time know.
I mobile between two towns which are close together (about 15 miles apart) I do not go out side these towns or travel far however when i did start out like urself, you need what you can get. I would point out first to the client that you charge £5+ fee for those futher destinations.. If the client is reliable and has regular maintenence's then I would book her in the end of the day so you dont have those worries about time ect
Its hard and somtimes you dread those long travels, try to keep each day planned and net those clients in areas where they live ect

I don't do mobile but if I was to travel far then I'd definitly add a small travel charge and I'd add in your advertisements what mile radius from your town you're willing to travel.

I used to charge 40p per mile for anything over 10 miles away.:hug:

I really do believe that a smart mobile technician should be charging every client a 40p per mile charge from your initial destination (this can be a built in charge for all those within a certain radius).

Those clients that want you to travel further need to be told what their mileage charge will be up front on the phone.

I do agree with jayjay69 that at this point in your career you should take every client you can get.

Hi, I'm newly mobile and have included travel for my area into my prices for most things. However the other day I had a lady book in for an eyebrow wax the other day, even though she didn't live far away I thought about by the time I pack my stuff, melt the wax etc is it worth it? Well I decided that I couldn't turn down business and as it turned out before I got off the phone she had added a manicure as well .

I do all treatments not just nails and the furthest I will go is half an hours journey from my home. If it is too far I just say "sorry but you are outside of my area." I put my prices at a level to cover any travel within this 30 minute time limit. I would still however take each call on its merit and if it was worth my while I would assess it at the time.

The problem is if you take anything and everything regardless of the distance you will have problems when you are busy as you will be forever traveling and therefore loosing time you could be doing work for another client. I have set a minimum spend, maybe you could set a minimum spend for the clients who live further away or ask them to get some friends together who also want treatments to make each journey more viable. I do think you need to take what you can to get busy but it will hinder you in the long run if you set your area too large. :hug:

Many of my clients upgrade like the above poster says when I explain the minimum call out (mine is £25).

Personally I would stipulate that a minimum charge of £10 is required or it really is not worth the fuel etc.If you had 4 eyebrow waxes at different venues all costing say £5.50 and you take into consideration the travelling to each client you could in theory be working for £10 approx an hour,that's not taking into account your products and fuel. I agree with Weezie. When I did mobile I included the cost of travel within my prices and I had a certain area that I covered. If anyone was outside that area I would tell them so. You are a mobile therapist not a national one!

Cool,you would be surprised how many price lists/leaflets I have seen that dont have a min amount printed on them.Me inc years ago:cry:.Total wast of time really.We live and learn lol.:green:
