Hi,
I have completed my foundation course with Creative and have a couple of questions that may have been answered that I have forgotten about and can't find any mention in my notes.

If I am just practicing on myself can I save surplus monomer in my dappen dish for use the next day?
It's just a little plastic one that came with my kit that has a lid that just sits on it.

Same question again for if I'm practicing on my trainer. Or does it spoil by evaporating?

xx

It will not last hun it will evaporate and also you will have a constant smell from it which after a while will get to you.

I would just decant enough for what you need each time as you can always top it up if you need more.

Thanks for the reply.
That's what I thought and that's what I've been doing.
I just love practice when I get a mo and sometimes I only get to do a couple, so there's some left over.
I also sometimes find that when I get to the point where there's not much monomer left that it seems a little 'thick'. I'm guessing I'm getting L&P mix from my brush in there.
Should I wipe my brush while I'm still learning/
I don't at the moment.

Try not to wipe while you work, even while training. You will find this easier in the long run. If you are finding the need to wipe it means you need to work on your mix ratio. Ask your educator to go through this with you, they will be able to show you how to pick up different size beads without taking up excess liquid, also Geeg has done an excellent mix ratio tutorial on this site, I found this very helpful.

I was taught that one pipette of monomer does approx one full set, however I only take up half a pipette at a time and change it at half time, because like you, I find that it helps to change to fresh monomer when it goes cloudy, you get a better bead that way.

I personally dont think its a good idea to save monomer in the way you mentioned, never take more than a pipette at a time, and dispose of it after by absorbing it into lint free pad and disposing of properly.

Good luck with your course, I hope you enjoy the Creative course as much as me!

Monomer gets contaminated very easily and this will effect your enhancements so try to make sure you are not getting to much Powder in to the dish.

I am maybe wrong with this but I do wipe my brush before dipping it into the liquid.

It will all come to you with practise hun so don't worry to much.
If you search the tutorials on here there is loads of information.

I was also taught with Creative and I was told to wipe off any excess between each application I don't use a lot of Monomer for a full set and never need to change it during a set.

It is funny how the same company but different Educators can teach different things.

Hi Michelle.
Yes, I'm loving it.
The course was brilliant and the support and advice I still get from the team has been invaluable.
I don't wipe, I was trained not to but I wonderd if I should seeing as my monomer is getting coudy when I get to the end of it.
I also was told to clean my brush in it when I had finished but wonder how clean it is when it's getting wiped in the cloudy remains.

Hi Klassy Klaws,
I suppose the ideal is to not get product left in the brush AND not wipe.
I was taught that wiping uses up quite a bit of monomer and that it creates more vapours.

If you are wiping between application,
wet the wipe that you are using with scrubfresh and wipe your brush on that, that way you will reduce the amount of odour produced from the monomer hth

Yes you should wipe your brush before you dip it back into the monomer. When we talk about not wiping your brush, it's about wiping your brush to remove excess liquid & achieve the correct ratio. The correct ratio should be achieved by loading your brush with the proper amount of liquid in the first place.

Sorry I hope that not too confusing. It's a bit early in the morning here.

Hiya

Klassy klaws is right, even with the same company, everyone will be taught in a slightly different way depending on the person who taught you, I have even had differing advice at the same academy but from different educators on different days.

I too was taught that wiping = excessive monomer use = excessive vapours = increased chance of over-exposure. Others do work differently and I would not want to knock anyone elses work, this is just my way because its how I was taught.

Re cleaning your brush. At the end of my service, I soak up any excess monomer on a lint free pad, dispose in a metal lined bin, then clean the brush in fresh clean monomer, then dispose of that monomer in the same way. Again, this is just my way being that I was taught this way.

Best wishes

Ah, thanks Michelle, I'll clean my brush in fresh monomer from now on.
