at the minute i have a promotion on for all treatments half price. i used this as an introductory thing and i am booked out. i was wondering if anyone had any ideas of what i could offer for june?

i still want to bring those clients in that have come for the half price promotion. any ideas would be great. i was maybe thinkin for june do 30% off all treatments or even 20% but i want something eye catching.

thank you

Now I'm not a marketing expert, just wondering why you offered half price on ALL treatments? Perhaps from now on your monthly promotion could be just on one or two treatments? That way your clients know your serious and value your service and skills.

Lots of Geeks always advise not to reduce your service price for promotions, but to create add-ons instead, ie free nail art with full set, free bikini wax with every full leg wax etc etc - extra treatments that cost you little, take little time, but make the client feel they've got a great deal (which of course they have). As a client, I love offers like this myself and it does the trick every time!

It's difficult for me as I only offer spray tanning, but my loyalty scheme (introduced in Jan) is working very well and I have a few clients who've already completed their second/third card and are being rewarded with yet another half price tan. I'm very happy with this as it's clearly only my valued regulars who are going to benefit, not the one-timers or the special-occasioners.

Good luck

I would do an offer where after you have a specific treatment then you get another free treatment of some kind. Or a loyalty type promotion where if they get so many things done in that month they'll get something free.

Hi Sorella

You need to be careful not to offer too many promotions as it can de-value your business also you will find that there will be an expectation from customers. You would be better to offer discounts on 2 treatments a month. With the tanning as we come into summer this becomes a very popular treatment so don't discount it too much - customers are happy to pay as they want to look good for summer.

Good ones to encourage more new people to your salon would be book you and a friend and get 1 of the treatments half price. Also loyalty cards are a great way of getting customers to re-book and save up their loyalty points for a free or discounted treatment.

Good luck

what way would you do the loyalty points with the clients?

I would do a stamp on a client card

I'd record them in a computer system as well. That way, the client won't be able to get stroppy if they lose their card or forget to bring it in, as you'll have a record as well.

how many stamps would they get to receive a free treatment or discount? would they get a stamp for each treatment they have?

The only time I ever do 1/2 price on treatments is if we have a quiet day & then I send out a text message to clients, BUT they can't have their usual treatment any cheaper, only valid for something new.

If you offer several services you are much better off putting a package of treatments together at a reasonable price. Work out what your minimum hourly rate is, how long your package will take, then charge accordingly.

If you do decide to go down the discount route, then I'd say just do it on your less popular treatments. If you're busy doing waxing, for eg, anyway, why discount it?

Keep discounting all treatments & the only clients you will end up with are those looking for a bargain & who tend to be very fickle. Which means you will be forever looking for new clients all the time. Much better to get the clients, then once you have them, encourage them to come in more often and/or spend more money.

Yeah, you'd also need to register under the data protection act if you were going to do this though.

Another thing. My brother inlaw has a degree in business..not sure what exactly. But anyways he said never to discount your high earners. For example if your highest profit is waxing or tanning you should never discount these.

It would be good to know your thoughts or any others on this.

Good point! Already have registered under the data protection act - but in case anyone needs more info on how to do that, the link to the Information Commissioner's site is Information Commissioner's Office - ICO

I spoke to the ICO not so long ago and was told that as long as the information you keep is for your own personal use to help with your business then you do not need to be registered.

I find that the mix & match 3.4.2 is always a good one, just be clear to mention the LOWEST price treatment is free.

 I've just had a promotions idea which is to put a voucher on my website which clients can then print out and bring along to a treatment. I've never tried this before, but as I have only had my website a few months I also thought it would be a good way to make people aware of it, as I want to advertise other promotions via the website.

My thinking is that if I start to tell clients about the discount voucher, it will make them aware of the site and they can tell their friends about the downloadable/printable voucher, so generating new clients.

It's on the first page if anyone wants to have a look at my site.
What do you think of this idea anyone?

Looks and sounds great. Would be interested to hear what level of response you get over the coming weeks x

Can you tell me exactly why you have to register with the data protection act, because i receive calls and faxes all the time at work offering this, that and the other from different companies and I haven't given any permission, I don't even know where they got my details, is this against the law. Also if I want to offer my client's say a discount because it's their birthday by text, do i need to be registered for this?

That's a great idea! I'd be inclined to be even craftier though - and use the discount voucher as an incentive for people to sign up to an email list where they would then subsequently receive promotional emails from your salon every so often - so they would get to the page with the voucher on after they sign up to your mailing list.

Lovely looking web site by the way - your web designers obviously know what they are doing, as they are using JQuery (a Javascript library), which I absolutely swear by. One thing I would suggest though, which I think would make it look even more funky - is if they did some clever rollover stuff with opacity so when you hover over a link on your menu, the link goes a bit lighter than the rest of the image.

The data protection act is concerned with storing details about individuals on computer systems, etc, for business purposes - so if a business wants to store information about people (e.g. names, addresses, date of birth, financial information, etc) on a computer system, then they need to register. So if you are storing details of your clients on a computer system (as opposed to just sending them a text on your phone) then you probably should register - but I'd be inclined contact the information commissioner's office for more info just in case.

If you're receiving a lot of marketing calls and whatnot from companies, then you probably want to register with the telephone protection service (TPS) - TPS Registration - a lot of businesses will share your information with other companies (unless you specifically opt out - e.g. there's usually a check box on web site forms asking if you are OK for that company to share your info with other companies that may be of interest to you - namely if you consent to that, then they are allowed to sell your details on to other companies, who will then subsequently cold call or spam you). However, I'm pretty sure that only applies to individuals - so if you are a business, for example, then I don't think there's any way of having your business number opt out of receiving marketing calls (the TPS web site only mentions registering home or mobile numbers to opt out of marketing calls).
