Hi guys

What music do you play in your hair/beauty salon.

In my last salon they used to have various albumbs ie lady gaga, britney, kylie etc and in beauty ahd some cds for calming.

however on doing research for my new salon clients said they hate to go to a salon and have the same artist singing as they get bored with the same artisit and also if they dont like them its a long 2 hours to sit and listen to them. Also people have said in beauty they hate pan pipe music and chill music and would rather have like a ministary off sound chill out album or something on?

What do you guys play/like?

I like the idea of a Ministry of Sound chillout album! I've certainly been waxed to similar music in the past - as well as some really nice Indian drum & bass type music (a bit like Talvin Singh - drum & bass with sitars and Indian flutes and whatnot that my therapist brought back from her holiday in India)...

I have 3 different playlists on my I-phone that I use for salon use when I am doing nails and waxing. I add to these with new music when I hear something I think people will like.
I have a couple of 'plinky-plonky' playlists I use when doing spa treatments and facials.

I find having it as a mixture rather than a complete album is good and clients likes the real mixture from Queen to black eyed peas!!
xxxx

we use ibiza and ministry of sound chill out for our nail bar and it goes down very well!

We used to ask the customers what they fancied and then start reading out the cd's, ranged from Bowie and pan pipes all the way to savage garden and Iron Maiden, (it was a tattoo studio as well) In my home studio I had Radio 2 on customers seemed to like the mix but I guess that depends on the age group of your clients:lol:

in my main salon i have a high range of different styles of music - from rock-easy listening (nothing girly as its a male enviroment)- i made a playlist on my ipod and just keep it on 'shuffle' its brilliant - making sure theres nothing with any bad language tho. in my waxing room i put on ministry of sound chill out album

I'm glad someone brought the music up!! I have been debating what to play in my room as im sick to the back teeth of what i have on my ipod.. I have came across a Melody Gardot album called 'my one and only' and everytime i play it my clients tell me how relaxed it makes them even when if are only in getting an eyebrow wax!! Its something about her voice and music that sends you off to another planet haha so thats defo recommended guys!

Also my mum was clearing out all her cds at the wknd and i aquired some old love song albums and i have had about 8 people remark on them! haha sometimes the oldies are the best :) so im taking all the good songs off them and putting them on a playlist.. i like the chill out and pipes etc but many of my clients have said they prefer voices rather than just the music especially if the voices are soft etc.. can sometimes be more relaxing! sorry long post! xx

I have an ipod full of albums, even albums I cant stand! So I ask my clients, especially the younger ones that kind of look at you like your a freak for putting on relaxing music lol.
I think it's sometimes easier to play the radio if you have a licence for it x

And for something a bit different, last year I discovered the music of Dustin O'Halloran, Dustin O'Halloran - quite by chance - as I was trying to find out who had composed the music for that ITV trailer, "The Brighter Side" as it reminded me of Michael Nyman's score to "The Piano"... and it turned out that the piece they used was composed by Dustin O'Halloran too...

He's recorded two albums of piano solos, both of which are very laid back and will appeal especially to classical music fans - particularly if you like the piano music of Erik Satie.

Am sure they would be an ideal accompaniment to relaxing treatments for people who aren't so keen on more "New Agey" type music (e.g. panpipes/whale sounds/etc) and prefer something a bit more classical in style...

Just found another pianist/composer who I really like (via an ad on Facebook) - he's called Fabrizio Paterlini and has recorded some lovely chilled out/neo-classical/minimalist piano music, a bit like Ludovico Einaudi - Fabrizio Paterlini - Solo Piano Music - Pianist and Composer - Home - I think this would work really well as nice, sophisticated background music for salon treatments...
