Has anyone else experienced a musty smell after applying self tan creams - th ecreams that you apply to your body and a slow tan appears after numerous applications?

hi

i think its the ingredients in them hun. although the ones i have used have more of a chemical rather than musty smell, if you know what i mean.

is it still in date the one you are using?

hth

Its the DHA in them it honks alot of companys fragrance the tan to try and cover it up but you always get abit of a smell.

I have to saw Tantricks is more of a digestive biscuit smell...I quite like it!!

Yes digestive biscuit is the smell I usually get. They did a thing on This Morning last week about them, most of them seem to have a biscuit smell to them.

oh god yes, there are some that profess to be non-smelly or almond fragranced but they are vile, after a few hours, my hubby would refuse to be in bed with me, and id be spraying perfume and anything to try and disguise it, i think the worst one on me (they smell diff on diff people i find) is the sublime one by l'oreal, smelt musty after 20 mins and lasted for days although it did wear off after 2 days so not as pungent , but i lterally cant use the stuff, even the johnsons and dove ones that are moisturisers with self tan in , smell funny on me???

Ive been using the Clarins one and I think its off that Im getting it !

Over the counter ones do tend to smell musty but the professional ones smell much nicer now a days hth

To be honest I am glad as been trying different things for days and its the self tan I've left off and not really smelt it. Was getting paranoid!

The smell your are experiancing is the reaction of the DHA into the skin which creats the tan itself...unfortunatley this is a not possible to get away from.

Different manufacturers have different recipies to try to cover this..unfortunatley whichever brand is used you will generally get this smell in one form or another.

The tendancy is that the purer the DHA used the less smell is given off however it cannot be avoided.
there is unfortunatley always a price o looking good.
The tip is to try and use a product that has as little guide colour as is possible(as this also doesnt generally help the smell) and dont over do the spray application....remember less is more..and that applies to the smell also:hug:

Hmmmmm think I may have to just settle for the white pastey look then!

Unfortunatley the smell you are refering to is in actual fact the DHA reaction with the skin which gives you the tan effect itself.

Whichever brand there will always be this smell in different levels of degree...some smells will be acceptable to you and others less so,therefore go with a brand that suits your nasel pallet best...even if you have to pay a couple of quid more.

In general terms the purer the DHA used the less the smell...also manufacturers use different aproaches to hiding the smell.....this costs money so again generally speaking the cheaper the product (I.E. high street) the greater the smell etc....

Avoid products with a very high initial fake tan guide colour as this is more likley to not allow the DHA in the tan side of the product to penetrate the skin..therefore it is left to "sit "on the surface of the skin and so give off more smell as well as slow down the tanning process itself and therefore reduce the length of the tan life.

remember that "less is more"

So unfortunatley there is as is (usual )a price to pay to looking good
Happy tanning

Just received some yummy smelling Strawberries and Melon Essence of Summer self tanning from Collin so fingers crossed both myself and my husband will be ok with the smell after a week or so - desperate for a self tan that is ok as I am white as a ghost now since throwing away every other self tan I owned.
