I have been wearing nailpolish religiously for the past couple of months with no time inbetween polishes.

I noticed today when I was removing my nailpolish that my big toe nail had turned 75% white.. I was shocked and scared!

I didn't know what to do.. it seemed like it was dry and was missing just some air from all the polish.

I was able to buff/file away the toplayer of the nail and got rid of all the white parts..

Is this something I need to treat?

Nothing hurts, nothing abnormal compared to my other toes. It was just white.. and I buffed it away.

Any advice?

No, you do not need to treat other than to give the nail a good drink of Solar Oil and buff it into the surface with a very soft buffer.

You nail plate is just dehydrated that's all. You really did not need to buff the white off the surface ... it just needed some TLC. Now, by buffing, you have made the surface more porous and will have to be extra careful not to dehydrate it further.

Use Solar Oil every day and give the nails a rest.

Thank you so much!

What is solar oil? and where can I get some? Is it different from cuticle oil? I'm assuming so?

I was still very scared of what was going on with my toenail! I am glad it's nothing big.. and it 's just thirsty!

I am definitely giving my nails, all 20!, a biggggg rest from my constant love of nail polish.

Is this solaroil?

Yes, that is the one. It is more than a cuticle oil ... MUCH more. A 'hall of fame' product which has been voted the best of its kind for the last 10 years or so!!! :green:

Awesome. I will definitely go pick some up today!!

Thank you again for the advice and help! and putting my mind at ease!

Atfirst I was freaked out and I had googled just what a white toenail was.. and all the results scared me! I thought I had some kinda weird fungus growing on my poor little toe!

But it doesn't have any other symptoms besides just the dry toplayer and being white..
I'm just glad it was just dehydrated and that a little TLC will do some good!

Seen it a million times love, so really don't worry.

Google is wonderful but sometimes, Google not knowing all the facts, can lead you astray with some of the information it gives.:hug:

Definitely!

This is why I love being able to find such awesome forums like this one to get some real advice and helpful tips!! :D

Can I just ask what do you think would have caused the dehydration?

The formaldehyde in the polish and constant wearing of polish. Just like enhancments cause dehydration through constant wear.

This is why i've been trying my best to stay away from china glaze since they still contain all that stuff that other brands have gotten rid of. ):
Even though they have some beautiful colors.. ;_; It's hard.

Now the new range of Creative Colour & Effects is Truly completely free of all 'the bad stuff' and believe me the colours are awesome .. so enjoy and use Solar Oil on you rotes while you are wearing polish and it will keep your nails beautifully hydrated. Enjoy. x
