I feel so sorry for my bro. When he was about 16, he had an ingrowing toenail on both big toes and it got infected reeeeeally bad. So he went to a chiropodist who cut out the sides of the nail (along the sidewalls), which sorted it out and is supposed to prevent any more ingrowing toenails.
But...... since then (now 4 years later), one toenail has been growing out in 'layers' if you like, which are discoloured and thick. We think this is because of him playing football but its only happened to one toe. Anyway, yesterday most of the nail came off completely- which again was down to football. Its not sore just a little tender and doesnt look bad at all. About 2cms of the nail is left and that is still thick and discoloured.
My questions are,
has anyone else had or seen this problem?
And from what ive described, do you think the matrix has been damaged?
If so, will it never grow back normally?
And (sorry!) how long do you think it will take to grow back? x
