I went for a full leg and bikini wax (and an underarm, but was told my hair was abit to short for that) I was a little nervous but it seemed to go well, she used hot wax, not sure what type of hot wax..but it was green. The pain was bearable and stoped after a few seconds. Once she had finished she left the room and I got dressed, I checked my legs and found that they were not as smooth as I had expected, it felt like a days stubble from shaving, I decided to leave it awhile as i had read that after waxing the skin is slightly bumpy, but I have noticed that the actual hair is left and is about 2mm long, you can't see it from a distance but I can certainly feel it. I was woundering if this is common for the first time or whether it was down to the woman doing it not doing it properly, she didn't pull the skin taught as she pulled the stips, only on my bikini line.
On a side note, I tried home waxing with cold wax strips and found I got better results, but couldn't bear ripping it off myself!

Sounds like it could be tea tree wax if it was green but it was not a hot wax if she used strips to remove it,
warm wax is used with strips
hot wax sets up and we simply remove the wax as a strip,
your legs will not be fully smooth until after about the fifth session, our hair grows in three different stages and it takes 4 or 5 waxing sessions to get the hair all growing in the same stage,
to be fair the therapist should have explained this to you,
waxing is a treatment that needs to be kept up to regularly with no shaving or tweezing in between appointments,
did she give you after care to follow hun

she didn't explain anything before hand :( and it was hot wax with those cloth strips. But she told me not to have a hot bath or shower and keep out of direct sunlight, sun beds and that type of thing and to exfoliate.

Thanks for the advice, I didn't know that it would take a few goes to get it smooth, when you read things on other forums it never mentions anything like that... or if it does, im blind!

Your welcome hun,
it was not hot wax she used it was warm wax (it all feels quite hot)
any wax removed with a strip of paper or fabric is warm wax,
hot wax or non strip wax as it is some times called sets up while on the skin and we just peel the wax off with our fingers, no strips involved at all,
keep up to your waxing appointments every 4 weeks and you will have the smoothness soon enough but you have to keep regular appointments to keep the smoothness and no shaving or plucking in between as this will interfere with the cycle hth

I agree with Lou. However, she may have just done a bad job of waxing as not all clients have stubble after the first few times of waxing.

xx

I shall keep it up, thanks again ^_^
would you say hot wax is better than warm? or isn't there much of a difference?
I think im half putting it down to a poor ish job, as she did miss patches, but i shal go elsewhere and see how it all goes :)
xx

Hot wax (also known as hard, brazilian, non-strip or peelable wax) is better for bikini line, in my opinion. Warm wax is best for legs.

Great point mentioned above there for you.

Just a mention though, if your leg hair was a bit short, then the warm waxing would not necessarily pull it out. I ask me clients to come when they have about 5mm growth to start with.

Also, once all the hair has been removed, there will still be shorter hair, that's just beginning to grow through, that the wax wasn't able to grab as it was too short. As Lou said, hair grows at different stages. The first time will grab the longest hairs, the second will grab the shorter hairs, that weren't long enough the first time, the 3rd will grab the hairs that would of been just starting to break through the skin, plus the new growth of the pre-waxed hairs etc etc. It takes about 5 - 6 goes to manage to get all the hairs growing out at the same time - if that makes sense. Then you'll have the smoothness you'd expect from waxing.
As someone else has said, no tweezing in between appointments and be sure to exfoliate your legs regularly. New hair, growing from scratch, will have a fine, soft point to it, where as shaved hair has a blunt end - therefore you feel the stubble effect. The fine points of the new hair growth can easily get stuck in the top layer of skin and become ingrown hair spots, so regular exfoliating & moisturising will help to minimise this. Your therapist may be able to retail you a product which will do the exfoliating & moisturising for you.
Keep at it mate, you'll be pleased you did.

You can't beat strip wax for legs. Hot/peelable wax is fine but you would have to pay about 50% more. You can use either though.

Yes, as I thought, she did a bad job. xxx

This is actually really common, as many therapists either don't enjoy waxing, or don't have enough time allocated for the appointment, or simply couldn't care less. You need to find someone who is efficient, without rushing, and is interested in giving great service.

Next time, watch the therapist, and when she has finished, see if she actually looks at the legs to see if she's done a good job. If she doesn't, just say, 'do you mind if I check, as last time I had them done there were hairs left.'

And to be honest, even if you forget to check and realise later on that there are hairs left, there is nothing to stop you going back and asking them to put it right

I think there might be some terminology confusion here since most posters here are in the UK. Nooblet: What we call 'strip wax' the UKers call warm wax. What they call hot wax.... unfortunately is almost impossible to find in LaLa and if you do is called 'hard wax'. I don't know why (maybe we are too obsessed with faster, quicker, now) but most waxers here don't know diddly about. Such a shame.

We also call warm wax strip wax. Cirepil are in the US and they distribute everywhere, so I'm told. They sell strip waxes and hot waxes. xxx

how long did you leave the hairs to grow?
you need to make sure that the hair feels bristly rather than sharp and stubly, then it is long enough. if the hair doesnt bend back on itself, then it isnt long enough. but for it to bend back sometimes it only needs to be 3 mm, it depends how thick the hair is.

it is normal to still feel a bit stubbly, because they are the sharp hairs that havnt grown since shaving. it might take a few waxes to get rid of these. but once you get into waxing, there wont be any stubbly hairs for you to feel, they will all have a soft tapered tip! which will also make them easier to get out with waxing because they will feel finer!

hope that makes sense!

Nooblet is in the UK which is why we were using the UK terminology

didn't look very closely at her original post, did I? thanks for that... still, it makes me sad no one here knows much about hard wax. I've learned it all from this website! (and so much more) Now, if I could just find a perron rigot distributor in the U.S...........:green:

No worries hun, we have all done the same at some point
