Hi everyone,

im in a bit of a pickle, im a mobile nail tech and i have recently rented a chair in a salon two days a week but when i get nervous my hand starts to shake and i take a panic attack, its happened 3 times now and if i dont get it sorted i feel like giving up!! Im great with my mobile customers as i know them, but in the salon iv had to do sculptures which i dont have the confidence with, and its embarrassing:cry:. I cant take rescue remedy as there is alcohol in it, has anyone had this prob and how did you fix it.x

Hi

I use the nighttime remedy and that doesn't have alcohol in it. That may be worth trying.

Thats right so they are:lol:, i forgot about that, gona go out 2mro and get some.

I feel bad for you .. that must be awful.

It is so important that you have confidence and take charge or yourself as any lack of confidence transmits to your clients. Naughty clients prey on the likes of you  and then anything at all that they can complain about, they do, and know they will get a freebie out of you because of your lack of confidence in yourself.

I think the only way to control it is to be as knowledgeable as possible and as good a tech as you can possibly be.

You didn't always know those mobile clients did you?? They must have been new to you at sometime or other. Were you nervous then?

These clients are just ordinary women!! I used to say to my girls in the salon ... just pretend she is your mother or your auntie ... they re just women!

You are so right Geeg (but you so often are ) I really ..... no realllly! used to be very timid and not much confidence but when I opened my salon I really did have to toughen up. Thankfully I have only had a couple of nasty customers but I stood up to them. Not problems with nails but with their timekeeping. Don't get me wrong i,m not hard underneath my tunic my chest is glowing red but I know this is my weak point so I keep it covered. If you are not confident FAKE IT and it comes with practice. BUT DON'T BACK DOWN perhaps working along side other techs may help build your confidence.

Be determined to conquer this problem not ready to give up....i used to suffer terrible panic attacks in a totally different situation for different reasons so i know what they are like..its hard to control because its in your mind..if you succumb to it you could end up with a totally irrational phobia..this is your job and your livelihood that you work hard for and its up to you to protect it..it seems that the root of the problem is lack of confidence with sculpts....so get determined to work on that problem....can you do another course or get a 121 to help build your confidence, knowledge and skill up in this particularly area? What bout doing sulpts on your existing mobile clients - that you feel more comfortable with. encourage them with a reduced rate...or even free first time if you have to! Be determined...you can do it...dont go through another day worrying about it..take some positive action TODAY and know that before long youll be wondering what on earth you were worrying about.

You would be able to take rescue remedy hun it has the smallest minute drop in it just to keep its shelf life xx

I really feel for you sweetie, I suffer from anxiety but thankfully this has never been a problem for me. It has affected me the same sometimes in various situations and i eventually went to see my doctor who helped me by sending me on CBT classes. I'm not saying that you might be bad enough for that but there could be exercises they can suggest to keep from having these panic attacks, also 'calms' are recommended by alot of people.
Please don't give up, you can conquer this!

CBT helped me enormously. I was so bad I couldn't even leave the house! Maybe have a chat with your doctor and in the meantime get a copy of "Overcoming Panic" by Derrick Silove and Vijaya Manicavasagar. It takes a CBT approach and is full of self help exercises. You'll probably find it on Amazon. HTH.

Thanks for all your replies and as geeg said i have came across some naughty clients that must have noticed my lack of confidence and preyed on it, when i go mobile into peoples houses they are very friendly but i have came across some right horrible women:twisted:, i think this has shaken me a bit!! Im going to spend this whole weekend practising, practising, practising as im loosing sleep over it and as you have said its my livelyhood, im self employed. thanks again i will keep you all posted on how i get on.xxxx:hug:

Hi ya,

Just read your post. I get the shakes when trying to paint nails sometimes, but I find a sugary sweet or sugary drink prior usually sorts it out. Maybe try giving it a go. May not work for you, but it sure works for me.

Yeh I get the shales on my assesment(well the first one) I also suffer form anxiety problems and have CBT. Do you no what I find helps do your make up realy nice wear your uniform with your badges and do some breathing excersizes before you go in. Then think whats the worst that can happen realy??? If one job doesnt work out thel be others!!! I wish you all the luck and hope the shakeyness subsides im sure in time it will

Confidence comes from acheivement,so focus on what you can and have acheived  x

Would one of you please explain to the uninitiated what CBT is?

i think its cognitive behaviour therapy :green:

think about those people who r coming to u r not nail technicians so they don't know as much as u about nails..only that knowledge its enough to give u the confident...we r beauticians not doctors so take it easy...smile and a nice chat will break that so try it and u don't need any calm or panic tablets....xxxx:hug:

That tells me what the letters stand for ... now what it actually means??

cognitive behavioural therapy is a type of therapy sometimes used instead of medicine and other things...sometimes patients are referred by their doctor for cognitive behavioural therapy particularly for problems associated with 'the mind'...so you would probably learn certain techniques/exercises that help you to cope with a stressful situation, for example.
Anyone feel free to correct me if im wrong but its something a learnt a little about on a psychology course many moons ago.
