I'm sure this has been asked before and my humble apologies if you're all getting sick of answering it but I have a lady with very short nails that she wants doing. It's my manager so I need to do something with them. I feel obliged!

She is a biter and her nails are about this length.
I realise the woman on that site who did the finished nails is a very good professional but I need to get them at least similar.

She wants white tips with Acrylic. I am doing them for £15 because I've only recently gotten my diploma and I don't think it's fair to charge full price. Plus she is my manager!

Any advice on how to get her nails looking decent is much appreciated. I have already suggested a gel overlay so her nails have a chance to grow a little and recover from the biting before I start on acrylics which are at risk of making her nails worse but she's set on acrylic.

Her skin rises up at the end of her finger because of the length of her nails, that is the only part that I'm finding difficult because I'm worried sticking the tips on will fail as they need to be at a 45degrees.

Any help would be really useful. She is getting them done next Friday!

Thank you in advance..

Hi, if you are worried about using tips, why dont you sculpt? You could also use a custom blend so you can extend the length of her nail bed so you dont get stumpy looking nails with huge white tips. I done this on a client last week and they looked great, she was so chuffed. Keep the length of the enhancements really short so shes not tempted to bite or pick at them. And make sure she comes back for infills as soon as they need it so again shes not tempted to bite at them! Hth xx

I would sugest sculpting with a cover powder to elongate the nail bed and do a nice short white free edge, making sure you don't make the nails too long as she is not used to any length at all.
I'm guessing that using the word 'acrylic' you mean liquid and powder.
Who says that this will make her nails worse?
This is a myth...neither l&p or gel ruins the nails, it's the lack of after care, incorect length, riping them off insted of soaking or over filing of the nail bed that will make the nails worse.

You can carve a "saddle" into the tip so that it snugs the hump of skin instead of trying to press into it, maybe someone knows of an online how to for this as I only have it in a book and it would make much more sense with photos!

I did acrylics for a really bad nail biter used clear with a glitter and they were fine. Realise you want to do P & W so how about use a natural tip and apply white free edge, don't make it too long though. No reason why acrylics should harm her nails at all, just bad application or tech being over rough. Good luck!

You will have your work cut out for you being so new to the industry, but that's not to say you can't do a fab job of them :green:

She needs to be persuaded away from white tips as they won't look attractive or aesthetically pleasing due to the length of her nail bed.

I agree with BellaBeautie and Del by advising an opaque powder to cover her nail plate and hide the lack of nail bed length, you would do that by placing the white further towards the free edge than her natural 'smile line' and then covering up her real smile line with your opaque powder.

Ruth did a tutorial :D - http://www.salongeek.com/nail-application/5746-tipping-bitten-nail.html

Good luck with it and let us know how you get on

I am not 100% on sculpting at the moment as I am new to the industry. The tutorial looks good though.

I will keep everyone updated when the time comes. I realise my profile is bare at the moment but I'm getting there! I've not had the chance to do it yet :green:

Thank You Everyone!

there are some white tips that look like fire at the end. peggy sage sells them. there are perfect for nail bitting. and then you can use gel or acrylic.
But you should tell her that because of the nail bitting might not last long

Some of the replies really make me chuckle they are so ill informed. :irked:

To do a nail biter really well takes skill and I expect that saddling a tip and using opaque powders are not something you have done yet.

I think doing nail biters is an advanced skill and requires a great deal of technical expertise.

Beginners should learn to do the easier shapes of nails well first, before tackling nail biters, in my opinion, but as for L&P not being a suitable medium for nail biters ? ::: for crumbs sake, L&P was invented for this type of nail and certainly does no harm to them ... the client looks to be doing enough harm to her own nails all by herself!

I agree 100% with Sandi ... no white tips until she deserves them .. they will look absolutely dreadful on short nails like this. Why do people ask for this? If she wants a white free edge then opaque powders are a must to get the right proportion.

I'd give her a natural look for now and paint them. the result will be SO much prettier.
