i am thinking about when i move out to do my own nail bar in the 3rd bedroom but i need to do some nail courses first though.. does anybody know any good site where i can do them at home or online?
also when i have done my courses could i go straight into starting up my own business as i am all new to this industry.. all the help and advice would be amazing.

i have started to collect pictures for my scrap book on my nail bar that eventually will have in my own house. & i have added everything up and got a list of the things i will need etc. (it wont be until a couple of years yet but it wont harm to get some ideas together)

thank you in advance.

hiya. is it just nails you wanna do??

i dont do nails but i know that thru what i do (hair) you need to get the best training you can. i hear a lot of people saying theyv trained and the course was rubbish, cos it was cheaper.

phone CND, they are a very well established nail company.

you are best to start with investing in some great training and see where you can go from there!!!

Hiya and welcome,

There are courses you can do from home and I believe the best ones are from essential nails.

I personally don't think it's the best idea to go down this route though, no-one will be at hand to help you out with problems and you may do things wrong. without knowing it is wrong which will cause you problems in the long run. Having some-one there to show you how to do things the right way and to help you improve on what you are doing is vital imho.

If the whole doing a 2 year beauty course is what's putting you off then you don't have to do that at all and I'm glad I didn't too. I did a 5 day course with CND to learn l&p enhancements (more commonly known as acrylic) and once I had practised a bit and got my nails looking good and not lifting then I began to charge clients. Learning with a reputable company is money well spent, plus you will then be using a top notch system which will help you become a better tech. Once the initial course is done you can then do other courses, such as manicures and pedicures, nail art, gel etc etc

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Hi Lauren Jade,

Sounds great - good on you!

I think before starting your own business, being an employee of an already established nail salon would provide you with some invaluable experience. Not only would you be able to expand on the skills you've already developed, but you would see what was required to run and operate such a business. Going it alone, i.e. being self-employed, is not easy and with it comes a lot of stress.

I wish you the best of luck with whatever path you choose!

Hi Laurenjade,

I am in completely the same boat as you as I am also completely new to the whole nail industry (with not qualifications/certificates what so-ever!!)and I have been doing sooo much research starting your own business and on loads of training companies I cant begin to tell you how my brain is feeling!

I was umming and ahhing between training with Bio sculpture or CND. I have heard so many good things about both companies but I have decided to go with CND as they have won numerous awards and is highly reccommended by many on here for their training and they have a fab foundation course which is what we need to get us started. I would like to specialise in gels rather than acrylics to start with but doing the 6 day foundation course (over the 5 day) with CND gives you the training you need for gels also so you get the best of both worlds.

Have you got any ideas who you might go with?

I am by far no expert but thought you might want to hear what another newbie who is in the same boat has decided to do :D

Jo xx
