I have a client that i go to every week to do a spray tan.
Last week she had asked if I do false lashes (the ones that last 3 months). I only do the strip lashes and the cluster ones. So she said she was going to a shop that would do them for £15 (single ones). I thought this was weird as it sounded too cheap. So anyway I told her if they don't offer you a patch test, don't go there because they are rubbish.

I went to see her tonight and she was almost in tears. The shop that has done them didn't patch test the glue before hand. They sat her in a chair, bent her neck side ways and told her to hold the glue. She said her neck was killing her. So they are all done now, but they are cluster lashes not singles. One side has loads more on than the other side and they have actually stuck the lashes under her eyelashes rather than on top (which stung her like mad). So now every time she blinks the glue is scratching her eyeball.
I really don't think they are even qualified!!!

Does anyone know of a lash remover that i can buy to get these off for her as comfortably as possible. I know oil based eye products are good but is there anything else out there specifically to get these off?
xxx

Yes, you can buy cluster lash remover from Sally's.
Take photographs and tell her to go back to the offending salon. The least she should get is her money back.
And the moral of the tale is if it looks too cheap to be any good it probably isn't any good.
I do wish people wouldn't take such risks with their health. I can't believe they are that penny pinching.

I know and i did warn her. At least she hasn't had a reaction that is the main thing. It's just crazy how these salons get away with it , it really is!! I will buy the stuff tomorrow hun, thanks for that, then hopefully get them all off for her pain free xxx

They get away with it because the market allows them to. If people didn't use such dreadful salons they would go out of business. Basic supply and demand. People want something for nothing, don't they?
Hopefully this has helped your client to see that in life you pretty much get what you pay for.

i do lashes and we wernt taught to patch test because the glue isnt touching any skin, ive never had anyone alergic or had any problems.
i dont know if thats right but thats what we were told and i trained with (apparantly) the no 1 lash company in america

Oh hun check with your insurance company just to be on the safe side. Mine require me to do this but every company is different. One of my friends had a major reaction to the glue a few yrs ago and her eyes puffed up to the point where she couldn't open them so it is probably best to be safe than sorry  xxx

thanks for the heads up! i will text from now on!

I know when you do an eyelash perm you have to patch test the glue as well as the perming lotion and neutraliser, so I'm really surprised that you were told you don't have to patch test for extensions. Apparently the glue is what most people react to if they're going to have a reaction. Definitely check with your insurance company.

Carly is right for lash extensions it is not required to test because the adhesive should not touch the skin or eye at all,
the adhesive is only going to touch the eyelash,
also when you fit the first lash you will see if there is going to be a possible reaction as the eye will water as soon as you have fitted the first extension,
this said when i teach how to do lashes i advise that when you do your consultation (at least 24hrs prior to lash appointment)
to do a skin test just to be sure,
9 times out of ten 10 you are going to be doing a lash tint at the consult so it takes no extra time to test the products you will use for the lash extensions, hth

But that's exactly the same for perming, the adhesive goes on the rod and the lashes are pressed back onto it. I personally think it's too risky to NOT test beforehand.

I agree, this is why when i teach lashes i DO teach trainees to patch test.

We got told at college recently though we're not required to test the glue used in lash perming, it's strongly recommended that we do in case of any reactions.

I always patch test for tinting, perming and false lashes

I know a friend who had such a bad reaction to eyelash glue that she ended up in A+E
