im just starting to do nail art myself so this might sound like a stupid question to professionals but could you tell me a little bit about the basic nail art brushes and tool and how do you use them because i want to buy some so i can start to learn but i dont know which one to pick - there is tooooooo many of the different types:

Nail Art Angled Brush

Nail Art Striper Brush

Nail Art Detail Brush

Nail Art Fan Brush

oh and could some one tell me how exactly do i use the Dotting Tool because i hav 1 but i cant make it do the dots all perfect :irked::irked::irked:
thank you so much

i would say the best thing to do is to book yourself on a course

you will learn lots of different techniques and how to create designs using different tools

I bought a few brushes and some rhinestones (nail art supplier), some glitter and acrylic paint (craft shop), a dotting tool and a colour wheel http://www.ellisons.co.uk/ecommerce/store/search/description/colour wheel/searchResults.aspx (Ellisons)

Then I looked for some online tutorials and just sat down to have a play! I will at some point probably do a course as there is lots more that I'd like to know, but I'm quite enjoying just playing at the moment.

Congratulations on tackling the nail art world!
The only one of these brushes i don't use is the angled brush. That is supposed to make it easier to see what your doing. The detailed brush is all I need for detailed work.
The key to this (these) is to keep the bristles of the brush at a point, and don't pick up too much paint, it defeats the purpose.
The striper is my favorite "difficult" brush. I say difficult because people are in awe of it and that someone can use it!
Keep your bristles clean and don't pull them to clean them.
If you lay it down from one side of the nail to the other, steady pressure. That will give you a solid line.
For wisps, use just the last 1/2 inch or so of the brush and bring it up at about a 45 degree angle and keep pulling it up away from the nail so you have less brush on the nail as you pull it. (wow, did that make sense??)
The fan, don't use too much paint or pressure. When you use it, start out like the striper, but instead of picking up the brush flick it instead of pulling it. (i hope that one made sense too?!)
The dotting tool, just make sure you have enough paint on it. Practice with the amount of paint. The more paint, the bigger the dot. The less paint, the smaller the dot. The more you use just one "dip" of paint and dot with it, the smaller the dots will get!
I use all of these brushes. You can check out my web site for many examples.
Just ask if you have more questions, or if I didn't explain something so it could be understood. (It's hard to put into words)
Good luck and practice!!1

Thanks Kathleen - so, the red, white and blue one - did you drag your brush over the wet polish or apply the polish with the brush. They look great!

Thanks!
I used paint on the polish when it was dry enough.
I did the white, then blue.
Well, I started at the corner and dragged it to the spot I wanted the color to end then flick it, to get the effect.
Just practice, over and over. You may find a design that no one else has done!
Good luck!
