Nail course recommendations?

Hi

I am a qualified beauty therapist (level 2) but want to specialise in Nails so looking at a NVQ course for nail technology or similar.

Has anyone done one in London/Surrey/Sussex area they recommend? I wasn’t overly keen on my Beauty course and didn’t come out feeling very confident so I don’t want to make the same mistake

I won’t be able to afford to do any conversion courses after this so really want the training to be great. Does this exist?
If I could train direct with a brand I would but living in the London area I think the qualification is needed to get special treatment license if I ever went self employed. Plus most salons round here ask for it too.

Be grateful if anyone can recommend somewhere they thought was worth the money [emoji1373]

I may be wrong (I’m sure someone will correct me), but you did manicure in your level 2? So you’re already qualified. You can do courses in gel, acrylic, dip, art etc separately. Gateway Workshops do day courses and they’re accredited by most insurances. You can always do conversion courses with a particular brand when you find one you’re happy with.
I’m level 2 qualified in Beauty therapy, and have additional qualifications in gel, acrylic and gel extensions. When I looked at a nail tech course at college, most of it was stuff I’d already done, so there was no point x

Hiya thanks for replying. I know I’m qualified and I can do further courses but I’m wondering in terms of a special treatment license which is needed to open your own business in a lot of London boroughs, do they accept training that is not at a NVQ level. It seems they don’t but hopefully council will get back to me. Just wondered what others did in this situation. Don’t think it applies to anywhere other than London.

I have never heard of a special treatment licence what is this ? I dont live in london but i would just like some information so am familiar with the term if anyone can share there knowledge that would b great x

Hiya i know in my borough (croydon) it states an NVQ but they also take a VTCT qualification, they wont accept any brand training like CND for example. In terms of training I've enrolled with Ray Cochran i haven't started yet but will be happy to update you when i have.

I did my VTCT level 2 in nail technology at Omni academy of beauty in Walton, Surrey. It’s a lot of learning crammed into about 7 training days but you get a year to complete the boys cans and course work. I won’t lie it’s a tough course as your covering acrylic, gel and fibreglass overlays. I don’t feel overly confident and I’m not offering these services yet. But that all comes with time and practice. I did my VTCT level 2 in nail treatments and a gel application course with them beforehand and I love doing that side of it which is what I do now. I’m hoping to add the overlays in later when I’m more confident. It’s not a cheap option either but you wouldn’t necessarily have to do a conversion course after unless you wanted to, or the specific brand you want to use expects you to. The tutors are lovely and will give you lots of info if you ring them for advice x

I’ve not heard of this either, I’m in Surrey, the council didn’t mention anything so I guess I don’t need one???

You should check with the council you are with. I called Sutton council in Surrey and you need one here x
