does anyone know of a website which has info on nail file grits? ie, explaing when to use certain grits?

Hi CaroleP,

A quick peek at your profile reveals that you say you are trained in Calgel, Biosculpture, Ezflow and Creative . . . .

Was this not covered in some of your training?

Don't know about the other companies that you trained with but i do know from experience that creative tell you what every file grit is and what it is used for and when,
you will have been given a training manual from creative and it is all in there too, as well as been in the sales catalogue hth

hi,

the reason i ask, is I have a problem with my finger tips - cant feel the grits properly. so i want learn and just keep refreshed. no harm in that

I only use creative files and each one looks different so i know just by looking at them, sorry if that is not much help hun,
maybe when you buy them you could put them into envelopes with the grit written on there so you know which one is in each envelope

i use millenium files that are differnet colours have the grit written on them and what the file is for

eg 100/180 filing and shaping

There is no harm but are you trained in these systems you have in your profile or do you just use all of them. There is quite a bit of difference in the systems and generic answers are not going to help you.You cant be trained on this site.

File grits are not standard, the numbers give you some what give a guide line. (a name) the stiffness of the core, the a mount of pressure, and the abrasive materials all come in to play also. And oh yeah each nail tech have their own standard of what a perfect finish is, so really you should stick to company recommendations.

The next time you take a class, make sure you write down the order in which the files are use. In competitions we have this system call rough to buff, which files is stack up in orders, and wrap. Try the opi profile sampler pack their files, and buffer are all the same shape so the stack nicely, and they come out the pack in order, all you have to do is know when to switch file.

thank you for the help! I really appreciate it, it really a pain not being able to feel the files properly.
Which do you find is a nice grit for blending tips to natural nails?
is is ok to use a 80/80 to shorten a plastic tip for gel overlays?

thanx guys, appreciate the help.

to be honest with you
i never use anything lower than a 180 grit
for shortening a tip i would use a 180 but a 240 is fine aswell
i would never use a grit lower than a 180 and never lower than a 240 near or on the natural nail

i would think a 80 grit for shortening a tip would rip it to shreds
hth x

thanx everyone!
