I had a customer two weeks ago that called today to tell me that one of her nails that she broke a while ago "5 weeks or so" started to hurt and that it is a bit swollen on her fingertip and a bit red.

When i heard this the first worrying thought that came up was ...am i responsable for that..????

I always sanitise my instruments and my files between customers and throw them out after about 4 customers, scrubresh the nails very well and don,t make any wounds during filing....how could this have happened?

The crack is near the free edge so i was wondering if something could have seeped underneath the nail and caused an infection?

What should i do? remove the nailenhancement and let it heal? i was planning on filling it very thin so i could have a better view on the crack and use scrubfresh on it again and just put a bandage on it for the moment untill it gets healed and re-apply the enhancement.

Personally I would leave it alone. I do not think you caused this to happen.
Tell the client to soak the nail in a mild warm salt water solution (about a half a teaspoon of salt to a cup of water) for 4 or five minutes 2--3 times per day. She can also follow the soak with a little antiseptic solution. My guess is that in 24 hours or so the pain will be gone. If it continues after that, let me know, but I doubt it will.

Thank you so much for the advise... i really didn,t knew what to do that well and she comes by tomorrow. I was starting to panick since i didn,t get any posts in

I really appreciate it that you helped me out with some advice I wouldn,t have known of elsewise.

I am going to rebalance her other nails so i just leave that one allone, give her the info that you just give me and wait for it to get better.

What would we do without you on this forum... :wink2:

My customer felt better after soaking her nails in the saltwater and antiseptic solution. I give her some along so she could continue at home. I think it will get better soon.

Thx again:wink2:

I'm sure she won't have any problems if she does this 2-3 times in the next 24 hours. It is what I would tell anyone to do if they had an infected hang nail etc.

Did you see the infection, could you tell where the seat of the infection was? Interested to know.

Her fingertip was slightly swollen but not red. From what i could see when i flipped her hand it was at the hyponichium since it was a bit brighter pink there. I asked her questions where it hurted and how it started etc... basically everything. She told me that two days ago when she pulled the skin of her fingertip down "away from the nail" and pushed it firmly back against it that a small amount of puss came out and that this obviously got her worried. She told me after that it got slowly a bit better towards today.
I was wondering if it could have been to a previous damaged nailplate? The first time when she came by i soaked of her old enhancements because they were in bad shape and when they were removed i clearly saw that her nails had been overfiled. I dont, think that she damaged her nails previously by pulling them or so since she always comes back for a rebalance with her nails in good shape.

I will see her this wednesday and see how her fingertip is doing.

What she has had here is not uncommon at all! Torn Hyponychium, a little bacteria gets in, it comes to a head and then it is gone ... this is what the body doe naturally every day to fight any kind of infection, just like a pimple!!

I would not worry about it anymore. It is no use surmising how it happened. It is a minor thing and I'm quite sure nothing to do with you. No need to remove the enhancement. The client needs to do a you have advised her and to keep the area clean until the hyponychium reseals itself to to the nail.

I am just amazed how fast it went away. I messaged her how everything was going and she said that everything was ok now, no pain, no swelling or nothing.

Again thx for the advice. It was a great thing to know about, espacially for the future if it 'ever' happens again. * you defenitly got both thumbs up from me*
