Hi can anyone advise if overlays are acceptable if you are going in to hospital. I have a friend who is pregnant and wishes a gel overlay on her toes but my concern is that they may not be allowed incase she need to have a C Section as I know that you are mean to have your nail polish off. Any advise welcome

I went in hospital last month and had to take my enhancements and polish off, the buggers lol... couldnt wait to get home to get them back on again ...so I would think not chick..hth..xx

I am sure that overlays on toes would be fine...but its always best to ask the consultant...

at the end of the day they ain't going to refuse to deliver her baby just cos she has gel on her toes.

Without getting technical, the machine in theatre that is used to tell how much oxygen is in your blood does not read properly with nail varnish, gel, acrylic etc, so they are not being funny, it is in your own interest to go in with bare nails , sorry, (from someone who works in theatre)

hi , the saturation monitor mentioned can be used on fingers or toes, so most hosps would be ok as long as fingers or toes were free of gel ( best to check tho )

YEAH :hug:THAT IS WHAT I MEANT

i had a planned section and i went in with gel toes and a full set. they asked about them but i just told them that the nail bed was clear so they could still see the condtion underneath. i suppose you could keep a nail free that you wouldnt really see as much like a thumb or something.

Get your friend to ask at the hospital she will be using,
they all have their own rules and regulations and this is the only way you will both know for sure hth

Definately check with your surgeon.

When i had my opp last week i removed my l&p but did a gel overlay on fingers and toes but only because i had my opp under local and not general.

The surgeon and theatre assistants was ok with it.

Hiya,

My sister had a C section 9 weeks ago and I did her toes for her, there was no problem, I actually get lots of Gel Toe requests from pregnant women going into hospital.

Also a couple of years ago I had an op, I just took one enhancement off each hand so they could put that wee doofer on my fingers to monitor whatever is it they do.

Like others said, best to check thought, I wouldnt fancy trying to buff off gel from toes just before giving birth  most can even reach them hehe

thanks guys, i think I will get her to check. I had decided not to go with enhancements or overlays on her fingers but still go ahead with the gel on her toes but it is multi colour glitter gel so i think the best option, which is said by most of you, is to get advice from the hospital. thanks it was good to get you views
