I just did my nails in this oval/round shape and I do NOT know if I can handle it!! I always wear my nails square. This is so weird!
<img src="http://www.lavazone2.com/welovett/nails/pictures/oval.jpg" width="400" height="266">
I sure can type fast with them though!

What shape do you all like? :?:

I wear my nails quite short compared to most (rather similar to yours in the photo), but to get the shape I like best, I taper the 'white' to make my fingers look longer and more sleek.

I carve out the under arch uisng my abrasive, and this has the effect of narrowing the white so they don't look 'heavy' at the end. You're so right about the typing! Much easier. :)

I never wear nail extensions or anything like that, i always have my nails natural. They're pretty short at the moment cos I filed them down so they'd grow back all at one length and more healthier.

But I usually wear my square but a bit curved at the edges.

xx layla xx

Wow Christie, you did amazing job with those smile lines.
I would maybe taper them a bit on the sides...not much ...just a tiny bit.
I think your nails look very good oval like that.
You are lucky to have such beautiful nails beds!

I usually start with square nails, but by the end of the week they are worn down to squoval. LOL Most of my clients are oval, but some are trying square. I think they hold up better myself. :D

I seldom get anyone who will critique my work. Ok here are three angles. Of course keep in mind that the camera adds 10 pounds...or liters? whatyacallit over there? Anyway they look bigger than real life...lol
Anna I have been trying what you said about covering a light with a piece of paper, I think it works. ok here are the pics...

So you think I should file the free edge narrower? Like more pointy? I like my smile lines deep but I am still perfecting the totally smooth smile, mine has tiny wavers. Good enough for everyday use but..you know.

I know Christie, camera adds bulk thats for sure! It's so hard to photograph nails.
Here is my attempt at oval nails. You might have to click few times...having problems with my website:

Hey Christie... Nice pics... thought id post some notes...

The form (silhouette) in pic #1 is pretty nice... and your smiles are more so. The line of light is pretty consistent and well placed.

Here are some tips on pic #2 (though the angle on the index finger is a bit wacky)

#1 This angle shows 2 subtle apex's:
o1.jpg

I would economise and merge those babies into 1, smack dab in the middle of the nail (from cuticle line to free edge line)

About so:
o2.jpg

So it looks somthin like:
o3.jpg

okokok... now the apex is touch too far back now... but im sure you get the point!

As far as the 'bringing in the sidewall/lower arch' thing... this pic show right where the prob is... your Zone 2 to 1 bubbles a bit. If you look at the line of light.... it starts to curve upward from Zone 3, then it gets wider and goes downward as the line moves to Zone 2 and Zone 3.
The line should really stay the same width for the length of the light.

Filing on that line should begin to straighten it out... and debulk that area.

As far as pic#3... They are only slightly thick on your C-Curve... but moving the apex should adjust that slightly.

Thanks for posting the pics... hope this gives some insight!

Toodles

That nail is all messed up! lol I am filing it right now... ;)
wow I would love to take 3 angles close up of every nail and post it...but I won't... It isn't ALL about Christie...is it.

You are totally right...I have apex troubles...you do not want to see my right hand... after doing pink and whites with my left hand last night...I had nearly decided that I hated nails and would never do them again.. then I got over it...lol

o but it is

You kill me.

long sleek almond shaped nails - Mr Geek has actually got very adept at doing these perfectly for me. He occasionally gets mad though because I like them so tapered looking, I often take out the under arches which makes them weaker! :boom: This shape can really make your fingers appear longer and slimmer than they actually are though! ;)

:cus:
Damn straight my cheeka! You can acheive just as beautiful results without filing v's into the stress points!
:cus:
-love ya babe!

lets talk about me again.... :silly: I love saying that, people always go "what? oh haha" "Ok enough about you lets talk about me"...totally joking of course...

But really..lol...
I have to tell you Samuel...your critique of my pics I posted really helped me! The index finger that you were talking about looked like it had a fine apex from the side view...but turn it a little (as in the pic) and it had this crazy bump! Now I am looking at all of them that way...looks good, looks good..turn and OH my gosh where did that come from?!

See this is what I need...no one ever points out little things like that when you are doing their nails...cuz if they did I would hit them..heehee

And, this is one of my big complaints...are you ready?.. Where are the pics of the winners of the Nail Olympics??? How can I learn what is perfect if I don't even get to see a pic of it? Certainly not from the pics in Nails Mag, etc. I mean look at the LeChat nails...or even..what is up with the OPI nail ads? That pic with the frog and glass ball think looks cool but, something ain't right with the nails. Eek I really hope who ever did those nails does not read this...eeek I hate to offend people...

Anyway, back to me again..lol I am going to post pics of my nails everytime I do them for you to inspect..ok? That would be great.

I agree with Christie..I wanna see those perfect nails too
(And... Christie.... I was thinking the same thing about some of those adds...I was really surpriced with the recent OPI add....the older one was niiiice.

How can we do PERFECT nails if we never (ok, very rarely) see PERFECT nails??? :frust:

I have been thinking about this....and my question is...huh?
fragend016.gif
lol
Are you talking about the sidewalls of the nail? Like filing the sides so the nail looks very narrow? I have never heard "under arches". I was trying to be cool
cool004.gif
and hip
cool001.gif
and act like I knew what you were talking about...but I couldn't keep it up.

lol

we do have a laugh when we read your posts - OK lets talk about you!! :? ;) under arches are the area that is the natural extension from your side wall - it mirrors the upper arch  does this make sense - the Geek is better at explaining (sometimes  ). I use the Kanga board and I kind of file in and under; yes it does make them look slimmer, sleaker and very tapered! I love them like that :scat:

Do you mean filing like this and sometimes (as the geek mentioned) even getting a notch in the stress area??

if your answer is....
-don't be silly, I would never do that- then see response A.

or if your answer is....
