Nail strength improved after enhancements

I wonder if any of you have experienced this or can tell me why

One of my nieces was a horrendous nail biter but having enhancements cured her and she has not bitten her nails or worn enhancements for over a year. Now, her nails have 'reattached' so she has a decent length nail bed but her free edge just won't reach any length as they just split and peel.

Six weeks ago she had a set of Popits over performance tips and after 3.5 weeks had them soaked off. In this time her natural nail had grown up of course. She came to me yesterday and on most of her fingers the growth she had attained with her last set of Popits is still there, admittedly a few had broken.

I understand obviously why they didn't break when the Popits were on but why should they suddenly have got stronger and lasted once they were taken off

My guess is that she weakens her free edges by having her nails in her mouth EVEN IF she is not biting them!! This is a common habit with biters. It is a very hard habit to break. They suck their nails and clean under them with their teeth (yucko) and the constant wet/dry thing weakens the free edge.

The overlay stopped her from doing that so the growth is stronger.

90% of the time they don't even realise they are doing it. BUT it takes one to know one and I'd stake my rep on it!! :lol:

Tell them to keep their nails out of their mouth. :lol:

Toughen Up from CND will also help to reinforce the cross links of the keratin of the natural nail. But as long as they keep them in their mouth it doesn't help the problem.

Wearing nail colour can help as a trigger to stop them from putting fingers in their mouth.
