Ok, so I've figured out that most of these courses request a model at some stage, because most of the training places are quite a distance from where I live, I am going to struggle to get a model to the venue (how have you coped from experience)?

So the only training providers close to home are:
Cuccio
LCN
The Edge
Training Solutions

Out of them all Cuccio and LCN are more appealing, just not sure which one to go for can you please help me decide?

Thanks Geeks :green:

Neither, sorry hun but you get what you pay for and I did a lot of research before I did my training.
My first choice would be with CND, second choice Ezflow, third choice NSI.
Where in the west midlands are you hun?
CND have trainers in most corners of the country, give Sweet Squared a ring to find your nearest. Same for the other two companies, they have trainers who have working salons in all area's but you need to phone the head office of each one to get the info.
Yes you will need a model, and it's best to have a couple lined up in case the first one lets you down.
I had a teenage daughter, she and her friends where only to pleased to get free nails done. If you have a collage or uni near you, put a notice up on the board asking for nail models. You'll get a response. Failing that, comunity center or library.
Seriously hun, don't cut corners with your foundation course, we have hundreds of posts on here from people who did and they ended up spending a lot more money geting proper training and buying more products they they would have done if they'd gone to a top class trainer in the first place.
I hope this helps you:hug:

Thanks Susie, I do appreciate your honesty, though I suppose I am back to sqaure 1. The closest CND is in Craven Arms which is over an hours travelling from Wolverhampton. Then there is Bio-sculpture in Leicester (which again is a fair bit of travelling).

Thanks for the tips on the model, I do have plenty of friends, but they all have work commitments/children etc and its just hard to get time off at the same time. Such a nightmare.

Hi Susie H have you been on a Cuccio training course, if so let me know about it. I am very keen to ensure our courses provide top quality training however as a manufacturer we dont need to charge as much as distributors for our training and we dont need to sell a training kit to bump up the cost. We are looking for long term customers so keep our entry level courses cost effective to allow potential new technicians the chance to begin the process of becoming a Nail technician without the barrier of huge initial costs. This does not mean the quality of training is compromised so I am not sure your you get what you pay for comment is valid.

Hi Tony
I have been on a Cuccio manicure course, which was really helpful.
After other courses being cancelled in my area due to lack of interest i am now booked on a Cuccio acrylic course next month- wish me luck! x

Hi just thought i'd let every1 (and Tony) know that i have now completed day 2 of my cuccio gel extension course and just have to go back on 27th sept for my exam.
I loved it every1 was really happy with the course, the trainer was a lovely person and really helpful and i have left after applying gel for the 1st ever time feeling rather confident.
I will say Tony altho the place, people and training were great i did find that the tables being used were too wide we all had a bit of a moan about having to reach over the table too far. ~(Not sure if you check tables and chairs are suitable or not before agreeing to train your products from different premises?) or whether this is up to them?
Also when we went to buy our products there was not enough of each item for the 6 of us that took the course, the manager said they were awaiting an order of cuccio products but we found it rather bad that the products were not ready and waiting for us to buy as the course had been booked for months and they knew we would be needing these products which they had not stocked up on.
But all in all the course was GREAT :)
Hope you don't think i am being too picky in what i have told you about i just thought i would try to give you some thorough feedback picking out any possible troubles.
Hope it helps!
xx

Hey guys i'm excited, so just had to tell u that i have now completed my cuccio gel course and i passed so i'm qualified in gels and manicure!:)

Hi Polish

I trained as a nail tech with LCN. The products are good quality, although they are a bit of a pest to get hold of. I've found that I can only order LCN products from a company called BCI (beauty concepts intl) via their online website (they will only sell to you if you have completed an LCN course), but they have a £50 min. order, which can be annoying if you only need one item. So currently, I use cuccio tips (only because I can get them from from capital readily), and everything else LCN. I'm very happy with the quality of LCN, even though it's a bit pricier than other brands such as Edge & Cuccio.

The starter kit you get from LCN is very good, although for some reason they only give you a box of natural tips, and not french white tips, which is a bit silly (hence why I went out and bought other ones). If memory serves I had to buy a UV lamp, tip-cutters, some extra brushes, some files & sanding blocks to get going on top of the kit.

If you have any questions about LCN, give me a wee message, I'll be honest as I can be!

Good luck x

Hi,

My advice would be only listen to advice on courses from people who have actually been on them!

I am LCN trained, although I did my training over 10 years ago the LCN course has only improved since i did mine! Also, Its always good to train with a reputable brand as clients will feel more confident in letting you loose on their nails knowing that you have been trained by a good company.

From my experience with LCN they offer very comprehensive training and will not qualify anyone who is not up to scratch ( excuse the pun!)

As for models, You should only need your model on your training day, assessment day, and final exam. Obviously you will need them inbetween at home to practice. But I offered mine a free lunch afterwards ( and obviously the free set of nails) and you would be suprised how many friends agree.

Good luck and I hope you find the right course for you
xx

hi, i am going to book onto a cuccio training course but does anyone know what is better acrylic or gel?

thanks sam

Hi
Well done for choosing Cuccio, i have done 2 courses with them now, i couldn't comment on what is the best to use as i chose to do my training for gels as i decided that this was a better option for me for a few reasons,
I'll give you a couple of my reasons as 1 may apply to you.
My biggest reason for preferring gels was the fact that they produce no smell, and as i am becoming a Mobile nail technician i figured it would be best not to stink peoples houses out
Acrylics are ment to be harder to master apparently, and to be honest a lot of customers i have had have come to me after bad experiences with having acrylics.
I also think gels give you a lot of options with overlays etc.
Cuccio are now also doing the pronto soak off gels in many variety's for me these are very good as i am finding a lot of my customers are just wanting their nails nice for a night out or something so with the soak offs it saves all the buffing and they can just be soaked off afterwards.
On 2nd Feb I'm going on another course which is Cuccio Pronto soak off, then it will teach me more about using the soak off gels.
I know I've rambled on a bit but just hoped my opinion could possibly help you in some way.

I love Cuccio. Biased toward Nail Harmony of course :green: but adore cuccio mani and pedi range

Ive just started my own space in salon.lcn is very popular in the area if sutton coldfield so I feel like no one would want any other gel. I currently use cuccio but may have to change as customers prefer the lcn.

I am sure the OP made up her mind and has done her training by now, as this thread was started in 2010! Although has been bumped up in 2012 and now in 2013.
I think it best to close now, to save any further confusion.
Maybe if this topic needs further discussion a new thread would be the way to go :)
