Hi everyone!

I'm totally new to this site so apoligies if you have been asked this many times before but I'm really confused!

I'm currently studying my HNC Beauty Therapy but have decided I want to specialise in nails and become a nail technician. I have already completed NC nail care so hold manicure, pedicure, anatomy etc qualifications. I would really like to do a course that will cover acrylics, gel etc but am finding it really difficult to come across a suitable one. I have a 1 year old daughter so couldn't go away for a course lasting more than 3 days as my husband works full time as do all the grandparents! Also I have college and work commitments. The other major factor is price, I'm aware that its not going to be cheap and I want to invest in a good course but I can't afford to spend a small fortune! I have looked into evening classes but most of them appear to be in Glasgow/Edinburgh and I live in Inverness so its just not possible for me to travel every week.

Can anyone recommend any courses? Also does anyone know of any home learning courses that are suitable baring in mind that I know the basics and have a nail care qualifictaion?

Any advice would be much appreciated, many thanks

S-J

Hi there dont know if its any use but i am currently studying and essential nails home learn course as i have 3 children the youngest being 10 months! the course is great and they also have a good range of courses. i think the price is quite reasonable as well. I was totally new to nails how ever since you are not i would imagine that you would be able to get through it fairly quickly! HTH x

One of the things that attracted me to essential nails was the fact that you can pay in instalments, it's around £60 a month for 6 months which for me is really helpful as I just can't save money! (seems to burn a hole in my pocket) You pay a little more on top with admin fees but its only around £40.

I would give them a look, there is also a group on here (I would post an invite but I don't know how!!) X

Thanks so much, I've had a wee look at the website and am impressed. I like that you can pay in installments. What courses are you guys doing? I was thinking of starting with the gels then maybe moving onto the acrylics. My brain is pickled, I've spent days scouring the internet trying to work out my best options!

I spent god knows how long trying to find a course! I'm starting with acrylics because even though gel is easier, acrylics are more popular (so I have read). So I figured when I have had looooaads of practice and hopefully get good at them, I can start charging, even if I just do friends I'm sure they wont mind paying 'mates rates' and then I can save up and work through some of the other courses, and its also good practice too :)

Hi hun i started with gel which i think is not to bad it did not take me long at all to complete, but everyone is different.
i say go for it hun you will love it. if you want know anything pm me.
xx

Hi hun, I have done the gel, acrylic (l&p) and maintenance course with EN. I did the gel course first, and I loved doing it, and did get clients, but I realised afterwards that there is more call for l&p in my area.
If I were you I would find out what there is a call for before you decide on which course to take, some area's gels are still not that well known and people are a bitdoubtful of trying something new hth...x:hug:

Yeah thats a good idea, I'll ask around. I have a few friends in the beauty business so will see what they think, I could also ask my college lecturers. I had just made up my mind I wanted do gels because thats what I prefer personally, a bit daft from a business point of view! Thanks again for all your opinions, they really do help!

Does anyone know about the CND courses? Everyone seems to rave about them but I'm finding it hard to come across info about how the courses are run with regard to them being 5/6 days. It is 5/6 continuous study or is it one class a week for 5/6 weeks etc? If that makes sense!

I think the CND course is 4 or 5 days..but not consecutive...usually a monday I think...and maybe a week or two between each day...im not sure...but give them a ring at the Fingertips centre and Heather will sort you out as to dates and stuff...I did My NQ and HNC last year...now hitting the books for HND...gtood luck with it...feel free to have a chat sometime

Hi, The CND Foundation course lasts for 5 days over a 4 week period. It is usually Sun, Mon, Tues then 2 weeks later on the Mon and then again 2 weeks later on the Mon, for Scotland anyway.

The Fingertips Centre is based near the Edinburgh Airport.

If you would like any other information please PM me your details and I will send you out a training folio.

Thanks again guys, seriously considering just going with CND, not 100% sure yet though! Also thinking about calgel or biosculpture and of course the essential nails!

Well if you are thinking of taking a class based course hun, I would go that route.
Don't get me wrong like I say I am EN trained and I loved my training, but I didn't really have the option at the time to do it any other way. Since then I have moved on to other systems and I am doing a conversion with Ezflow asap..
If you have the opportunity to get Creative or whatever system you decide training, then I would go that route..that's my two penneth anyway  x

I agree with Suze here i myself have taken 3 EN course and loved them and it worked for me as it was my only option, BUT if you can get to do a class room course then i would deffo do it hun.

EN courses are brill if your situation limits you to home learn.
