If you have your nail technicians certificate you dont need a licence in Australia.

Thanks Uber!!
But does this also apply even if the certificates from a private school and not goverment accredited? Can I open my own salon in oz? The reason why I want a license it to travel o/s and work for myself in my home over there. I can have it converted over where Im going. Who do I need to contact for a license in Australia????

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe at this stage either or is sufficent to open your own salon.
I have heard that they are hoping to bring in nation wide licensing, probably best to contact Mindy at APFA APFA Nails - Australian Professional Fingernails Association

Thanks heaps Il look into it, if you happen to think of anything else let me know :)

You don't require a licence to open or operate a salon in Australia.
You don't lawfully require any qualifications at all to practice nails in Australia.
There are no plans at present to regulate the industry in Australia or introduce licensing and it's highly unlikely that there will be in the near future.

You do not require a licence to obtain a business registration either.

However, you do need to be insured and a lot of insurers will require some evidence of training from a government accredited training institution.

And, depending on where you set up your salon, some Councils may ask for evidence of training before they allow you to operate.

Be aware that tougher consumer protection laws are in force from 1 January 2011 so you will definitely need good and comprehensive insurance.
