Hi All

Just a quick question.

I have just completed day 3 of CND foundation and would like to know how many of you file down the contact area of nail tips.

I am aware that there are tips available with no contact area but ask this question as I have never experienced a nail tech doing this whilst ive had my nails enhanced.

I would be grateful for your imput as to whether you do this and the difference you experience if you do/dont.

Thx xx

Hiya .. I do pre blend tips with a contact area...I just find it quicker to do before i apply them rather than after. The once applied its just a few sweeps and its gone.

Only thing i would say is...Too much pre blending and you can have problems firring the tip...becouse you will have made the well thinner, when applying the nail the ears are not so ridged and can spread out....if that makes sense.

I have in the past sat in front of the telly and pre blended a box of tips, its time I'm not doing anything else and it means my service is that much quicker.
Leaving the well in is what we refer to as the porn star look and I have to say that in spite of how it looks its a very popular look in my neck of the woods, the girls refer to them as 'sick' and 'bad' which I am assured means they like them:lol:
I buy well less tips now which just need gluing on, no blending or anything, not even the shine taking of, and I like the shape much better.

I take it you are referring to white tips...?? I wouldn't say tips with wells are "porn star" look....you can get clear and natural tips with wells and there isn't anything "porn star" about them...??

Once a tip with a well is applied and blended you wouldnt even know it had a well.

No blending, that sounds good what are the tips you use.

I use Creative Performance tips ...no blending, no removing shine and great shape.

Thx angie,

I am pre blending and only just getting them equal....

I am hloding the tip straight upwards and the file at 10 to 4 and am doing approx 5 strokes

I am finding that i have bits, I think thats what you mean by firring... and this is time consuming... any way to prevent this?

I do realise its early days and it will get easier with practice.

Think i will convert to non blend in time but I would like to get the blending right.

I have just started using ezflow could i use these tips it would save so much time.

Ahhh i see, so you are removing the well entirely and not just pre blending....??

To be honest i don't remove wells....I have done in the past and used a white block to neaten the bits you are on about. Now i just use the performance tips...unless not suited to the nail and then i use another tip with a well and pre blend that, not remove it.

No not removing completely, I would say removing almost 1/2 of it.

Arhh didnt think to use blend block to remove bits, that may help.

Out comes Hannah the hand tonight lol

thx Angie x

reducing the well....yeah the white block will help...i flipped the under side of the tip with my nail to lift out any scraggy bits and then white block them away.

Thanks Angie, I got there in the end, I was quite pleased with the results of my first nail enhancements today.

Its just little things like that that need the practice, but lots of models lined up .... Ill keep you up-dated.

What! an unblended white tip is trendy where u are???? OMG i am shocked!
or have i read it totally wrong?

You dont blend white tips !....

neither do i but mine dont have a contact area to blend- maybe i ve read it totally wrong..............................

Lol ive got you all going now.......

To blend or not to blend this is the question lol

Anyway thanks Angie, i did get rid of the (bits) firring with the block.

One thing i dont understand is why they are made with a large contact area which we then file away to half???

Any ideas..

I NEVER pre-tailor, the tips are designed to be a certain shape and pre-tailoring (particularly thinning them down) tends to make them "splay", rather than grip the sidewalls. I prefer to use different styles ( I actually use 5 different tips).

I do however cut out some of the well on full well tips.

When you learn file control and where to file, tips blend in quite well without the need to pre-tailor.

I also try and size a little bigger,(rather than smaller) then when the excess is filed off, they fit perfectly (it's logical).

"take my advice, i'm not using it"

i,m glad you said that i always find the tips splay when i pre blend and also if i do get a bubble i cant flippin see it till i start blending !!! but i always thought everyone did it so i better had ! im thinking of ordering the asian tips that you use.
