Hiya all :)

I have now started on the essential nails l&p course (not before time may I add  ) and this is my 1st proper thread,...be kind

I have read through forum threads in the last few weeks and noticed people seem to have problems with the no 13 when tipping. I am one of those people and the nail trainer nearly went out the window with frustration yesterday evening haha.

I find that the curve of the tip is far too curved for the no13 (which has a really flat nail bed) I had several attempts.1st attempt I didnt use enough glue,2nd attempt I used too much,3rd attempt BIGGEST air pocket ever lol.4th attempt still a big air pocket,5th attempt still a air pocket. There seems to be a gap between the nail&tip because of the curve of the tip.Can the no13 nail be fitted with a tip (that comes with the course) without no air pocket at all, or am I always going to get an air pocket no matter what? Any help/or tips (pardon the pun :)) would be grateful

Also the thing that tipped me over the edge yesterday was the fact that I gave up after the 5th attempt and decided to try a different sized natural nail. I opted for the no 6. I clicked down once, then twice but after the 2nd click it just kept popping out again. It just wouldn't stop in place with the 2nd click. So when it came to doing any work with the nail, all the nail kept doing was flirting out  Are all nail trainers like this? Or have I just got a dodgy finger

Thanks in advance

Frustrated trainee geek

You are not alone trust me if you do a essential nails search you will find loads of info that may help you along:)

What i find hard to believe is they tell you to use the number 13 nail as its the easiest which in my case and most others is total untrue!!

Ive been told to use a different glue most people have recommend cnd gel bond so ive ordered some and will try that.

good luck

Hi, i am on my third courses with en and when i first started i thought i 'd go mad with the same problems your having, always ringing Sarah. But it is a matter of clicking the nails in right (ALTHOUGH THE LITTLE RASCALS STILL JUMP OUT NOW AND AGAIN) . I still get odd air pockets in the no 13 nail but not as many now, i don't think it's the glue it's just that the tip is totally wrong for the nail, on the dvd Gina does it with such ease that i'm sure they must have changed the nail although not forgetting she's the experienced tutor. So your definitely not alone. And as i said in a previous thread i was having problems with gel but hopefully sorted it. Carole xx

I can appreciate why a home learning course has an appeal for people who can't get to a class and want to go at their own pace, for whatever reason. After reading various threads on the trials and tribulations of an EN course, I can only salute the brave souls who see it through!

thin the well of the tip first hun before you apply the glue

I spoke to sarah today about it and she has told me i can either use the no 13 or the no 6 nail for the progress card.

This is what she said about air bubbles

"If you are getting just a small air bubble i will not take points as the number 13 nail is the hardest nail in the course, and the plastic nails do not bend as well as a natural nail and it is so flat, but it is possible so keep practicing."

She also said i can send her in some of the nails i have done for some feedback and advice which im gonna do :) HTH

Thanks to all your replies.

Yes I can't believe in the manual that they say the no13 is the easiest. Its the flat nail bed that doesn't seem to mix well with the curved tip. Apparently though it can be done  Im not going to let it defeat me :)

Honeymummy.... what would you use to thin the well? can you explain why this would help? sorry as I said, I've only just started the course,so I'm feeling like a right div at the moment

I totally agree with you silverspring, she makes it look so easy but then again who wouldn't when they have all the experience and qualifications that they've progressed on over the years. Perfect practise and more and more, will eventually help :) I live in hope  I certainly don't expect to be able to do it straight away with the click of my fingers. You learn by your mistakes though and some situations are always a good learning curve because where you go wrong, it gives you the chance to put it right....thank god for the trainer  when the nails aren't popping out that is

Hi Emma, watch how Gina shortens the well on the pinky finger tip and do the same to the well with the no 13. Carole xxx

Which part is that on the dvd? I don't think I've got that far  ,either that or I fell asleep for a few seconds haha.

I will have a look later if I get chance :)

Thanks x x

Forward to Working the whole hand (nail tipping) xx

Thanks for that I will have a look :)

Apparently though, I have sent some photo's to sarah of the first few nails that I tried to tip and she said I wasn't using enough glue and that I needed to put more pressure on the middle part of the tip. I find though that, the little bit of extra pressure gives like a stress line on the tip. I'm going to have another go tonight and fingers crossed they will be a little better than what I have done upto yet :) I'm just dreading the nails clicking out, because the no6 wouldnt stay put last night even before I started doing anything

Ive changed over to the no 6 nail now and it is slightly easier but have also changed my glue and what a difference that makes:)

:irked:Hi, I also have done the L&P course and nail maintenence course through Essential nails as i live i the Orknay Isles and there are no classes near me and that bloody number 13 drove me nuts!!!! I am now doing the fibre glass course and it is back again, number 13 lucky for some but not in this course!!! Sarah also told me to use a number 6 for the first card and what a difference. As for the nail trainer i find that if take the rubber finger tips off it works better but only if you go gently! good luck.

Have you tried using a thin layer of acrylics to "glue" the tip on? :)

Hello and welcome to the site.

The member to whom you asking a question has been absent since 2012, and this thread actually dates back to 2008.

If you have nail trainer or Essential Nails related questions to ask, may I suggest you start a new thread?

Hope that helps.
