Nail Varnish UNDER uv Gel??

Hiya!!
I've got some CND Velocity nail tips, which i find are best to work with. I only have the clear tips, & want to do a french manicure on my friend. I have IBD builder gel (pink & white) but find these very difficult to use. So my friend suggested applying a tip, covering the hole nail in a layer of gel, cure, then do a french polish using normal nail varnish - then apply a layer of gel on top & cure. Would this work???

I don't think it will as gel needs a rough surface. I think you would need to go over the polish with at least a 240 grit file but then you would lose a lot of the polish.

Yes it would work if you pop it under a UV top coat (eg glaze n go) then cure as normal.

I use nail varnish under my young nails top coat and my glaze n go and have had no problems at all.

Only certain top coats are suitable. Star naills Quatro is meant to work.

I've never personally tried it. Just going by what I've read. Do you think it would work with the builder gel the OP has? I might give it a go with my NSI Finish Clear, but with Shellac round the corner that might be the answer.

Hi it will work with Quatro gel top coat, but it doesn't with Nsi Glaze n Go the nail varnish cracks under glaze n go, never thought of trying finish over the top. :biggrin:

If you use quattro gel over the polish and cure....will it cure with the brisa lamp, I am booking Brisa conversion course, and would be intrested as think its a good add on service, if i do gel, and maybe nail-art or polish, be nice to know i can use quattro and brisa lamp.

Star Quattro will cure under a brisa lamp, but the polish needs to be completely dry (at least an hour) before you can put the quattro on top, hth.

Personally I dont see the point in this, nsi and creative brisa do a brush on french white which is very easy so why dont you try that. You would put the first layer of builder gel on, then clense to wipe off sticky layer then put on the brush on french white, cure then finish gloss or glaze and go. This is easier than nail varnish as you can correct your perfect french before you cure it.
