This is a mad question and I dont think it would work but I am sure i saw something somewhere about placing an enhancement onto a finger where there is no natural nail. I can't do a search because I'm not sure what to look for!

This is not something i will be trying until I am more experienced but my friend lost the tip of her finger years ago and when I mentioned I had read something about placing a nail where there isn't one she asked me to find out.

Personally I feel it would draw attention to the area and look silly and also I cannot see how it would stay as the skin underneath would produce sweat/oil ??!

Has anyone tried or heard of a method for this?!

hi
My friend has only a small amount of nail on her little finger, it has never grown. I normally sculpt a nail as if there was a full nail there using pink first, just for base layer, try and do it very thin. Then I do a white tip and then add opaque pink for nail bed so it hides the nail bed and this always works and looks great. Give it a try. Abi:lol:

It can be done, and I'm hoping to get mine done, the lovely Fee at fingertips is confident she can do this for me, although she has said that they nails will come off quite quickly, but I'm happy with that as at least on special occasions I will be able to be "normal" LOL.....I have almost no nails on both my forefingers (see my album) and because of that have never felt able to wear bold nail colours ( although lately I have decided I will wear them regardless)
Once I get my backside into gear and get it done I will post pictures in my album. xxx

I have a friend who had pulled off the glue on nails that you buy from boots, ripped off her own nail and damaged the matrix and now only has a very tiny nail on her pinkie. She was being a bridesmaid at a friends wedding last year and asked if I could do anything with them. I sculpted a new nail onto the tiny nail that was there and kept it really short, and I gave her a tube of CND glue with her and advised her to glue it down if it started to lift for the day of the wedding and to return shortly after to get it removed, as it wouldn't stick for long and didn't want her to catch it & do any more damage, she came back after the wedding and said that she did have to apply some glue the morning of the wedding but it held out for the day so she was really pleased. I only had the confidence to do this after reading instructions on this site from Gigi, I'm sure if you search you will find the instructions on this site somewhere.

Thanks for the replies !
how would a nail stay in place if there is not even a tiny bit of nail left? the tip of her finger is completely missing!

I feel a bit sick at the thought of the girl who pulled off her own nails using falsies! ouch!

If she has lost the tip of her finger, does she still have any nail bed? If she still has a nail bed you would create an acrylic nail ontop of the skin of the nailbed, but of course as acrylic wont adhere to skin, when the acrylic has hardened it would just peel off, you then have to glue it on, I used CND Gelbond. So it really is only a very temporary fix for a special occasion and would probably only last a day or two.

aha this is the answer i was looking for! no she has no nail bed! which is why i said in my 1st post i thought it would look silly and draw attention to it plus couoldnt work out how it would work!

i just wanted the info so i could put her off the idea or find out if anyone had a magic trick that would make it work! not that i'm experienced enough to truy it but then i could have helped her find someone who is.

There may be some more experienced nail techs on here who would be able to do the above and just adhere it to her skin (again it would only last as long as the glue would hold), but without actually seeing a picture of her finger, it would be hard to tell if this may be possible, or if it would enhance her finger by doing so.

oh, i know it wont enhance her finger! it will look silly as that finger is shorter than the others! but you know what its like when someone wants something, they cannot just be told it wont work, she needs to either be told its impossible or to try it and see for herself how it willl look.

anyone in dorset want to have a go?!!

Give her what she wants and let her look at it. I think you are right, she will see for her self it will look odd.
