Hi to all, I am just new to the site and would like some advice. I am just qualified as a nail technician, I done an intense training course as I have 3 children I wanted something I enjoyed and would be able to do mobile.
The problem I am having is that what ever system I use weather it is gel, acrylic or silk they start to lift a the sides and bottom within a few days. I contacted the place I done the course with and they said the only way it would lift is if I was in contact with the cuticle.
I am being really careful trying not to hit the cuticle but even when I do my own nails they still lift.
I am getting really worried if I am good enough with all the competition these days. I am getting business but not any repeat business which is very worrying. Please Please help:confused:

Hi hun, you have come to fantastic place to find advice and information. I am fairly new to nails myself and it really it is a matter of hours of practicing your techniques properly. I can not really comment on gel as i only do gel toes, but for l&p there are a number of things that can cause lifting, such as improper mix ratio, not pressing the product, poor prep, as well as contact with living tissue - quite a long list to think about! I sometimes feel like i correct one issue, then another one comes up lol! There is some fantastic tutorials on this site, they help me so much, that and my nail trainer hand. As im sure many geeks on here would agree your course is only the start of your education if you want to be a great nail tech! I'm saving money i make doing nails for more education and i cant wait to book some!!
Good luck hun, get everyone you know to be models! even my poor boyfriend was a star for being a model lol!!
xx

Nail Tutorials - Salon Geek

Hi and welcome, You will see many threads written here on lifting so have a good search and in the tutorials section you will find so much helpful advice.

Proper preparation of the natural nail prevents problems and is vital. Make sure that the nail plate has the cuticle on the exposed nail plate is throughly removed, shine removed (double check the cuticle line and the sidewalls) and the entire area is clean, sanitary and temporarily dehydrated

Ensure that no enhancement product comes in contact with any living tissue (skin)

Invest in good quality education, it will serve you well and practice.

Maybe this is because (reading your post) you really do not understand what the cuticle is. The cuticle is not the skin surrounding the nail that you are 'tying not to hit'. The skin surrounding the nail plate is living and has a name (eponychium, hyponychium and perionychium). It is true that 'hitting' this skin will cause lifting, but that skin is not cuticle.

Cuticle is an accumulation of dead skin cells that have been ex-foliated and deposited on the surface of the nail plate from the living tissue surrounding it and this is what you must remove from the plate prior to application. You really need to remove it all and be very thorough and get this absolutely right or else as you say your business will suffer badly.
