Hi everyone

What does everyone do with the undergrowth under French tips? Most of my clients want the nice white tips to be white underneath as well, and once their nails grow up I've had some who want the whole enhancement removed, their natural nails trimmed, and new enhancements put on.

What does everyone do?

I know on myself I've got a thumbnail that always splits and you can see it on the underside - it looks very untidy and I hate it when it grows up high enough to see.

I appreciate the words of those more experienced, as I've got a whole heap of clients who are approaching this stage and I'd really liike to keep them happy!

Thanks
Dawn

Tbh it's personal preference! I have some clients who love the fact that their enhancements are now a natural nail overlay and are proud that they can see their natural nails behind, whereas as others hate it! With those I do soak off, cut down their natural nails and do a new set...... It's not what I recommend, but it's what they want!

I'm assuming you can do a permanent french? So you can either continue rebalancing to a NNO or soak off and new set - I'd say rebalance unless you get a specific request to soak off and re-apply.....

I can do a permenent french - but as most of my acrylics clients are fairly new to me, it hasn't been an issue (my "old" regulars tend to want the soak off option).

I can make the front of the nail look gorgeous - it's just the backs!!! :)

I think the only time the backs look a little untidy is when they have half way between growing the tips off...once they get to NNO and the tips are off they look fine.

I know exactly what you are referring to - what i would suggest you try is this....

1. Retail them a sachet of a nail brightening product such as 'Bubble White'.
I sell this to a number of my clients.

2. Suggest they use a nail brush regularly as build up can look as though the nails are discoloured & yellowy. You'd be surprised to find out how many people don't use a nail brush to clean their nails - especially whilst wearing enhancements! I'm a bit of a clean nail freak! I also retail nail brushes.

3. For a charge....you could offer to clean the underside of the nails using CND Cuticle Remover and a nail chisel/scraper. The only problem I have with doing this is it makes me feel like throwing up!
I did this for a regular client on Friday as she was moaning about the colour of her natural nails - she was a little embarrassed about how much gunge came off the nail & how much cleaner they looked - suggested she then uses a nail brush regularly to ensure they stay cleaner.
