Need advice on potential job

Hey all

I have been offered a job in a new salon opening up the end of the month.

They are asking for a 60/40 split to begin with and once I have established a client base we can re negotiate the details.

What do you guys think? I am moving back home so I wont have a client base at all to begin with.

I'm new to this. I will only need to have my own products as they have their own furniture etc.

Any advice is greatly received.

Am I right in thinking you've been offered a self-employed position then? Its not the same as being employed! Make sure you clarify this with the salon owner. Employees do not provide their own products etc. If you are self-employed you have to do your own tax/NI etc.

Could be a good oppurtunity but make sure its what you are looking for

I'm looking at the possibilities of a room at the moment too but I will admit at 40/60 I would feel uncomfy... I'm looking at 35/65 and even that is making me twinge a bit BUT it all depends on what is included... The salon owner in my case is bringing with her 10 years of established clients, she does treatments that compliment mine, all bills are included in that I just provide my materials. I still need to think a little as does she clearly but given she will be taking on the burden of advertising and providing me a ready made client base that will obviously help. What I have in my favour is that I am aiming at the same client base as her - neither of us like the "cheap and cheerful" fly by night offers. We believe in quality and that there is a niche for us where we are. She is also keen on getting into the "male grooming" market, and I'm very much aiming at the male waxing market so that would work well for us both. She has more girls to see this weekend and I think I will look into other locations that might have a room available in town to see if there is a better location/set up/etc available - ironic as I wasn't planning on going into a salon environment LOL
