On my acrylics exam today (which woo hoo I passed), I had to share my model as a lady who had come from Greece, hers let her down.

Consequently we were without a model each for our 2nd hand, so the trainer got us to do each others.

I know everyone has to learn so I'm not moaning but I need some advice.

She's cut my cuticle quite badly, but under my extension (tip) on my thumb, she put far too much glue on and it set (by far too much I mean, the glue underneath, is level with the tip edge). She decided she couldn't get to the edges to file them, and tried to prize the glued tip off my thumb.

She's made a big tear in my thumb from the tip end of the sidewall towards the middle of my thumb and its banging! darn thing is throbbing when I'm not even moving my thumb, if I put it in water, yowzar :(

I'd love to take the extensions off because this one in particular feels like a big heavy chunk of plastic stuck to my thumb, but obviously can't go sticking my thumb in acetone, eek.

Can anyone think of anything I can do? or should I just leave it a couple of days and see if it heals?

thanks x

btw, whilst I'm on, do I put my qualifications under my name now? would it be the IBSD bit?

Oh dear that doesnt sound too good at all, what a shame :(
As they say, you learn from your mistakes. So I bet she doesnt go doing that again!
I ripped the tip off by accident and I had a v shape gap going down my natural nail and it was agony for ages! I kept a plaster over it so it wouldnt catch on anything and put solar oil on all the time to try help it heal! xxx

Well done on passing:hug:
I would leave it alone until it stops throbbing and then just shape and file it so it feels more comfortable, it's actually better protected by having the acrylic over it, but do keep an eye on it for lifting and keep it out of the water last thing you want is a bacterial infection in there.
As it grows out try to keep it nice and short so as not to catch it on anything and if you do get lifting try to file the lifting away rather then remove the whole enhancment. xx

thanks for your replies.

Will leave it for now then. Filed the other one down already :D darn thing still throbbing, am sat holding my thumb lol.

mmm keeping it out of water, does that mean doing the pots? Could you please put that in writing, don't think hubby will 'buy' it somehow :green:

Sounds nasty. If i ever have any cuts or filing abrasions and im desperatly wanting to soak off (my own nails and only on myself) i always cover the cut or sore with vasaline before submerging into acetone. I keep the vasaline pot near by incase i start to feel any seepage so i can reapply if needed. Things we do for vanity! :)

New skin from the chemist is really good. I use it if I cut myself or if I don't want to get remover on a clients cut( if they have cut themselves before appointment with vegetable knife etc.)
Only thing is DON'T use the spatula in the bottle in case of cross infection, I let it drip onto an cotton bud then apply it to the finger from the bud, it may sting a little if the cut is very fresh but from then on it is not exposed
Hope this makes sense!

ooh sounds good, but not heard of it, will ask at the chemist, am tempted to try something, cos its still all connected, the tear to the glue to the tip and every time I use my thumb, its hurts like a mad un
thanks x

Liquid skin sounds good, so does a nice big plaster, to remind you not to use that thumb for a couple of days, the washing up.......... No hun I was thinking rubber gloves:lol:
Sorry:confused:

will nip in chemist today, seriously though, I can't get a doctors note for the pots ;) darn

not such a stinging pain today, more like a bruisey ache, will suffer in silence ;)

Forgot to put New Skin is made by Germolene.
I do hairdressing so if I nick myself when cutting those little children that move a lot I put it on, then it does'nt matter it my hands are wet.
Plasters seem to come off with water & manky when the hair gets stuck in them

I got some, blimey that stuff stings lol.

Protected it whilst soaking though, finally! got the darn thing off.

Nails not happy, just remembered the trainer gave the trainee a tool (can't remember the name, double ended with a little blade on both ends, to get the bits of gel off, I had coloured gel on which needed to be filed off beforehand. I've got a nick out of my nail plate but its not through to the nailbed.

It's soaked, buffed and lathered in solar oil now, resting.....

thanks for all your advice x

Yes, it does sting for a few seconds, but its better than for 20 mins when soaking.:)

I do warn may clients it will sting for a few seconds but the added advantage is if they come in with a cut near where you file it also prevents you touching/catching their cut with the file.

yep, its good stuff to have in.

mmm 20mins!? more like over an hour for 1 nail! I think she put the acrylic on with a trowel lol. Bless her, she kept saying 'ooh I missed a bit' and put on enough for that bit to do 2 full nails, and I wasn't allowed to tell her :( I felt awful.

I would hate to have her do my nails.
It sounds like on your test you learnt as much as what not to do as what to do!!
Glad you got them of ok:lol:
