Hi ladies,

Not a hair geek - into the beauty side of things, so hoping you can help me!

I had dark red hair, used decolour remover and that took it to a much lighter auburn colour. Tried applying a blonde hair dye, and all that did was lighten my natural roots a bit. End goal is to get back to an ash blonde... how do I do this? My hair is in great condition - the treatments I did yesterday only left it a little bit dry, but still strong.

Pic is of my hair now- as of yesterday.

Thanks!!

Hi Candz, really sorry I'm not going to be much help, it's a job for a specialist in colour correction, I'm a qualified hairdresser of 20+ years but even with that experience and knowledge i don't attempt corrections as there are so many variables and things to go wrong. Keep up with the treatments and get yourself to a experienced colourist - best advice, if you try to correct it yourself you'll end up with yellow roots and bright orange hair. Sorry, probably not the answer you wanted. Xx

Don't put any more colour remover on your hair! All you will do is damage it more and never achieve the colour you want. A colour correction like this is far too complicated to do on your own. There is too much involved. It's not as simple as stripping it back and applying a blonde. Go to a salon and let someone have a look at your options. Possibly starting with some scattered highlights and a semi permanent inbetween to cover the warmth that's came through. Build up highlights over time to a lighter colour, gradually working towards the blonde you want to be. Unfortunately there is no 'quick fix' for what you are trying to get. As penners said, even the most experienced stylists avoid these type of colour corrections because they can be so complicated.

Oh dear :( biggest issue is that I'm out of work at the moment - I can't afford what they charge for colour correction in a salon. Is there no alternative? Can Imaybe cover it with a light brown and then start working in some highlights in a few weeks? xx

Hi, we're not allowed to give non pros advice on a DIY job,
If cash is an issue, why not contact your local college, this would be z perfect job for a level 3, you pay next to nothing and it's all done under strict supervision

Please don't attempt any more colour processes yourself or your could end up a lovely Khaki or worse still, picking your hair off the floor :-(

Great advice! As khs says it will be done under supervision and at a fraction of price. Home hair colouring is a false economy, as it ends up coasting much more to rectify. Good luck!

So... I went to the salon today and... my hair is AWESOME now!! Thank you everyone :)
