Hello Everyone
So, I passed my manicure and acrylic course and I have my gel course next week.
I'd like to set up working from home to start with to build my confidence, but not sure how to go about it and how to get clients.
Unfortunatley I dont have a lot of family/friends close by as we recently moved to a different area.
So any tips on getting people, and what I should be charging would be very much appreciated
Many Thanks
Hi hun and welcome to salon geek, I say this time and time again, I really really REALLY recomend that you try and do a little bit of temping work in a local salon.
Get your phone book out and have a look at nail and beauty salons in your area, go and see them, ask to see the manager, explain that you have just qualified and ask them if they need holiday cover. It's a great way to get a bit of experience, the other techs will chat and give you tips of the trade because you are a temp and therefor not a threat, you'll see how a salon works, which will give you idea's for what you do and do not want in your salon.
For a home salon, keep it simple, you don't need 12,000 nail polishes or half a million nail art stickers. You do need insurance, for a home salon I highly recomend Salon Gold, mine is around the £50 pa, a web site, Salon Alcomey, think I've spelt that wrong, but it's Ruth Mills our very own geek. a web site from her including a years hosting is from £170, leaflets, very useful way of letting local people know you are there.
Don't be tempted to drop your prices below the other nail techs in your area, if you do you will attract the sort of client who goes from cheep tech to cheep tech, ie the moment you put your prices up they are gone and you have to start all over again. So find out what is the avarrage charge in your area and that's what you charge, if you want to do something to make you stand out, then do a special offer, not a price reduction but a £5 gift voucher for next treatment with every full set of nails or a complementry mini pedicure with every luxury Manicure.
Also, use the search button at the top right of the screen and there is loads of advise on marketing, networking, in fact every aspect of the beauty business, just tap in a key word and see what comes up.
