Hi All, I am a fully qualified Nail Tech and have been for 4 years now. When i originally set up my business i placed an advert with voucher in the local paper in order to get new clients. The voucher enabled the customer to get a full set of nails for £15.00 plus FREE nail art. I did acquire one client at that time who had just turned 16 who wanted her nails doing. I have done them a few times since however over the years i have increased my price to £20.00 plus FREE nail art. All my clients are really happy with the level of service i provide and never complain, however i recently had a voicemail left on my mobile stating that the young girl (stated above) would like her nails doing but they wanted to negotiate on the price as the young lady is currently on a modern apprenticeship and earning little money!!!!!!! - I really can't get over this, i was mortified when i heard the voicemail and kept replaying it to check i had not made an error. I strongly believe im under cutting myself at the moment however the level of service i provide is second to non. Im quite upset that i have been asked such a question. I have not replied to the customer as of yet however i do think there is an element of cheek there. Has anyone else come across this or something similar? Also how did you handle the situation. x

I think that you are way too cheep as it is!
You should do some market research to see what others are charging in your area. At a low price when you have taken into account product, laundry, consumables what are you actually making ?x
Place new advertisments with a higher price, I suspect that you did not get much response from the first advert because you were too cheep!
And right or wrong I wouldnt even reply to the girls call as it is a total cheek and does not warrant a reply she should be embarrasses about asking this of you when you have prices that are so cheep...and what is worse is she will of shopped around beforehand and will no this :smack:
charge more good luck jo xx
ps im in brid for god sake and you cant get a set done for under 35! x x

I totally agree with blackjack you are way too cheap, especially as you've been doing nails for four years ! I used to do dressmaking as a business, i priced myself the same as shop bought dresses, i made a hell of a lot of bridesmaids dresses, never the wedding dress. Someone told me i was too cheap so i put my prices up and hey presto ~ i got the Bride! Morrel of the story is, if your too cheap poeple will think your no good. Put your prices up, and even above everyone else and people think you must be fantastic !
I wouldn't even bother phoning this girl back and if she phones you have a reply ready. If you give in to her once she will walk all over you. Keep your standards and your prices up !

I agree that your prises need to go up, you are probably worrying that you will loose the customers you have, but thats easy, as you see your regular clients you warn them that your prices are going up due to increase of product cost, mutter darkly about how much fuel costs have gone up and how it affects delivery costs, that way people automatically blame the government for trying to put you out of business.
Then you tell your existing customers that they will only have a 2,3, pound increase but new customers will have a 4,6 pound increase and of course they will continue to have free nail art but new customers will now have to pay.
As for the cheeky mare. I would wait and see if she calls back, if she does then I would tell her that your price is now £35 a set but seeing as she is short of cash you will do her nail art free:green: I bet she stutters:twisted:

I can't believe the cheek of some people! In the 9 years of being a Beauty Therapist I have never had anyone ask to negotiate on my prices...I know what I would say if anyone did!!!

xx

Its happening a lot in this day and age that people are wanting something for nothing.

I agree with the others, your prices are too low especially after 4 years of being a professional technician your skill and technique would have developed since your training so you need to increase your prices.

Politely say that your prices are set and are not negotiable :)

I would say to you to put up your prices across the board as you are way too cheap. The prices you are charging now are what people where i live would charge whilst training.

I have always charged at least £25 for a fullset when i was training, and now charge from £35- £50 a full set depending on what people want. (this includes color fades and 3D nail art in that pricing.) Plus, i know i can offer something a lot of techs in my area don't do, like the 3D stuff, colour fades and inbuilt nail art.

This has probably been said before, but if you offer your services cheap, you end up attracting that sort of client, who wants something for nothing, uses their nails like tools, then wonders why they break them, then want free repairs.

Price yourself better and you will get a better sort of client, who wants to look after their nails and will pay for quality, not quickness.
