Has anyone tried the new diarichesse? And will it give one and a half shade of lift?

I have a new Italian client who is Base 4/5 and got previously coloured hair by a salon and insists that it's a semi permanent that has been previously used and wants to continue using a semi permanent. I am a little unsure what to use as it appears to have about one and a half shades of lift. It's a slightly lighter colour than her natural colour with lovely golden tones.

I am thinking of trying the new diarichesse as it is advertised that it gives this lift but would like some assurance from someone who has tried it. I usually use Wella Colour Touch but not confident that will give enough lift.

The new Diarichesse has three different strength developers now too, 6, 9 and 15 vol so confused which strength I would use, I am assuming a 15 vol and maybe go for a shade on a level 6.

Any suggestions welcome please!

Hi you are right the 15 vol gives you up to 1.5 levels of lift.

To be honest I don't usually it it to lift as such, rather to shift the natural base slightly to allow more of the tone of the colour to shine though (rather than a tone-on-tone result).

You should also know that 15 vol will also deposit more tone (good for white hair) so I would be inclined to use a shade lighter maybe a 7.31 if you want to achieve more of a 6 on a natural 5, otherwise you might cover over any lift that you achieve with the developer.

In the US they are using the clear shade with up to 20 vol for base breaking.

:)

That's great thanks. A 7.31 sounds good. She has about 2 inches of regrowth so I guess would be best to apply to roots first and then do mid lengths and ends for the last ten mins as I don't want the rest to lighten anymore but just refresh a little and to blend the colour.

I'm a bit confused? is she a base 4/5 and your wanting to achieve a level 7 through diarichesse? X

No, it only needs to lift about 1.5 shades

Called Loreal technical support for advice about the different developers for the new DiaRichesse and they informed me the 6 vol will give 1 to 1.5 shades of lift. 9 vol is to cover 30% white hair and 15 is to cover 70% white hair.

Hi, I absolutely love the new richesse, I'm a really big fan! It can lift a shade and a half.... But personally I feel that lifting with this product is not advisable on dark hair. In my opinion it's more suited to lighter bases where the undercoat is easier to cover. Since richesse is semi it won't give the same coverage over that very strong red undercoat that a base 4/5 has, and you run the risk of the lightening process revealing some of that pigment in my opinion. As you are the professional in this situation I feel really strongly that you shouldn't let your client bully you into using certain products - you have all your training and experience and you work with your chosen colour line because it's what you like and feel comfortable with. I once let a client tell me what product to use on her hair, insisting she had always had it (it was dia color gelee at the time)... The result was I had to perform a correction of my own colour because either the client had lied or the previous salon had lied to her about what they used. Good luck with this whatever you choose to do hun, hope all goes well for you xx

Thanks for such a lovely and useful reply. You are so right!! I do have this funny feeling that the salon she went to have lied to her as I just cannot see how a semi has given this lift. Will go with my knowledge and examine it again in detail when she comes as it may be even lighter by then as i know she has been on holiday and make the decision then but I think it's going to be a permanent.

Thank you!

Ahh you're very welcome :) yes definitely, always go with your gut instinct and your experience, is the best advice anyone can give I think x

Have you thought about trying Luo instead?

Great idea beth! Luo gives a good level of lift (more so than majirel) as it's used with 25 vol (7.5%) specialised developer. I'd use an ash based shade personally to neutralise some of that warmth from the undercoat x

Yeah, 7.1 in Luo is a great colour for getting rid of warmth! If you're only lifting to a 6 though you may not need to use this. I can't understand why she would have a semi, if going lighter than her natural colour she obviously doesn't want the gentle fade over her roots? Maybe they used permanent on her roots and semi on the ends at the previous place? Just a thought :)

Could refresh the ends in dia light... Lush range! X
