Read that and I’m glad they’re requiring practitioners to be medically qualified before being admitted to the register.

Perhaps not, but we all know what eventually happened with tooth whitening.
I keep wondering how so many people are looking like FREAKS with all these lips and faces looking so weird! Who are doing all these fillers? It can not just beauticians doing them, is it nurses/doctors too? I think there needs to be limits to how much people should have over who is providing the treatment. Am I wrong?

I agree it's shocking and as a beauty therapist some are giving us a bad name. It needs regulating and fast and I don't think any old dentist nurse or doctor who has had no previous experience with the beauty industry should be doing it either.

I agree, there needs to be some strict health and safety regulations on the amount of fillers given to anyone. Do you think beauty therapist should be able to do fillers or botox? I feel the training is a little extreme to become a nurse first and I do think with the right and correct training beauty therapists should be able to provide these treatments.

Yes I think we should but it should have it's own qualification that maybe follows the level 3 as we are already using needles anyway and because nursing is nothing to do with beauty therapy in my eyes its a torally different carreer path so we as an industry are getting a raw deal,it makes sence that our industry has the choice to follow on. My mum is a nurse and she thinks that really nurses doing it should also have a beauty therapy background as we trained just as long and specialise in facial areas and I don't think the public know what we are actually trained in . If I'm honest I think many are hopping on the band wagon for the money and it's very clear with what's going on witn nurses and doctors setting up clinics with no background in beauty whatsoever is concerning . Iv had BOTOX and the lady that does mine has a nursing and beauty therapy background and it shows in her work and clients and reputation. It's a tough one tbh very tough but something's got to be done as iv seen some right disasters lately. Ps I don't really like fillers full stop so id only offer BOTOX anyway.
oh I know its just becoming ridiculous with people looking completely different its very sad to see and yes, bad its just for the money and people are ruining themselves its getting out of hand. I agree they should have beauty training too it is a difficult one.
And if they don’t keep up with all these fillers what’s their skin going to end up looking like when they do age and have to keep having more and more fillers there’s going to be a lot of scary older ladies as a mature lady it is tempting when I see all these fabulous looking older ladies who have a lot of work to compete naturally without fillers is hard [emoji847]
My daughter has her own clinic doing spmu, dermaplane, super Hair Removal, microdermabrasion, peels etc and she’s currently awaiting her registration with Health Improvement Scotland to enable her to have medical professionals offering Botox and fillers in her clinic. It’s not cheap and it’s a lengthy process to get everything in place for the inspection.

I totally agree with you. It matters who has good aesthetic understanding and care for clients. Some Doctors can't say no to client and stop injecting before their face looks ridiculous.

Clients don’t seem to care. I’ve had a client of mine asking me to do a fillers course for months and I’ve explained if she’s going down that route she needs to be super careful who she goes to and check their credentials as there are some dodgy courses out there. She replied with “if you ever decide to do one of those dodgy courses, let me know as I’d definitely come to you “ [emoji85][emoji85][emoji23]

I have seen some shocking outcomes with fillers and I know plenty of dental nurses, beauty therapists, nurses and someone with no profession at all being able to perform fillers and botox!! It's disturbing and needs to be stopped.
The client asks for big lips so it’s hard for any of us to say no.

I thought this too but it’s your reputation that’s at risk if you just do what clients think they want at the time and it ends up looking horrendous, can you imagine them telling everyone where they came to end up looking this way!
I would love to do it but in a responsible way, I was going to get to level 3 and do the botox and fillers course but I didn’t feel ready so I’m doing level 4 advanced beauty treatments, if I am comfortable then I’ll do the course.
Really think that there needs to be a uni course for just aesthetics the botox and fillers, for therapists to do the access to nursing after they’ve done all of the beauty therapy up to level 4 and then on to do a course for botox and fillers and other advanced treatments because what’s the point in us all training in nursing and nobody ending up being a nurse?

It is doctors & nurses... but it's what a lot of people want. For some reason they believe that it makes them attractive. Personally, I won't do it. But a lot of people do.
A different POV from someone doing this....
- definitely agree that not all doc/dentists/nurses should be doing it. Not because of technicality - but because aesthetic sense is an art
- I recently had a pharmacist who started training other pharmacists and was trying to recruit me as a practitioner for students to shadow. I said no. I didn't agree with pharmacists doing it
- What a nurse, dentist and doctor have over other types of practitioners - the ability to recognise when something goes wrong especially with vascular occlusion and embolism. The understanding of complication progression; the different depths of the skin, what it does, relationship with arteries and veins and capillaries plus bone - this takes years. The ability to react quickly in emergencies and calmly - many of us have A&E backgrounds.
- Everything is great when the going is good. When things go wrong, you really want someone who knows what they are doing. And things do and will go wrong. Even with the most experienced hands
- I also seem to get more and more corrections from other practitioners. Many are nodules. granulomas etc. It takes years to tell what is what. It takes an in depth knowledge of physiology and pathology to understand the potential issues and the ability to prescribe e.g. antibiotics, steroids etc as required when something goes wrong
- My website is written in a way that its quite clear that my ethos is natural. The best version of someone your age - kind of a thing. That is certainly possible. But you're right. Not easy to find. Profit margin is higher if more product is used unfortunately (I'll never be rich lol!)
- Body dysmorphia is very common even amongst practitioners. Good trick is to see if you like how the practitioner looks - ask their age (I never mind). I won't go to someone who's ethos is not the same as mine; I'm also a little vary of someone who doesn't do a thing although very common in male practitioners - tbh, I haven't found anyone I'd be happy to go to without travelling quite a bit!
Hope that puts things into perspective a little.

Also there should be a governing body that covers this particular industry like the GMC for doctors. They thay have a code of conduct and they have to follow. And would deal with practitioners who are a risk to patients.
