Hi Girls
Im usually over in skin geek as i specialise in eye enhancing treatments.
I done a gel nail course yesterday. I really enjoyed it and just wanted some clarification on makes of gel polishes!
Im so confused!
Yesterday we used Gelish and Shellac. I preferred Shellac.
Im just having a look on websites at the moment, gauging the sort of costs of polishes.(I already work in a salon so will be using their system but just browsing for future purchases maybe)
Are these polishes like makes, as in Ive now seen IBD, is that IBD then Shellac is a type of IBD?? or are they two different things?
Ive also seen or heard of...ibd,shellac,gelish,gellux,opi,cco,cnd argh probbly many more but what do they all mean? lol
I looked at a site doing a shellac kit but on the actual polishes it says CCO, what is this? is it shellac or a type of shellac? is shellac just an igredient and these polishes are good, or is shellac a brand only and these are cheap copies?
I need some clarification (or idiots guide) to gel polish makes.
Sorry for sounding like an idiot! ive only been having gel nails on myself the last 3 weeks-never had them before, and having been specialising in eye treatments i really know nothing about nails!! (apart from what i learnt on my course)
Anyway i will keep scouring and hopefully learning from the nail forum now too!
Thankyou x

Ok

Quick info coming lol

There is only one shellac that is made by CND and sold via sweet squared 0845 210 6060 or Ellison's both you'll have to register and to do that you need show your mani pedi certs to them, best to ring sweet squared they are fab and will help you out.

The rest if say shellac are not shellac they are copies or gel polish.

Others like Gelish, bid, crystal nails to name a few are gel polish so slightly different to shellac in application, shellac need no buffing of the natural nail, the others do, tho I know some techs don't.

All need a lamp to cure, some have uv some led, always try to get the lamp for system if jot check with manufacturer if it will cure properly, CND say shellac only cures with their lamp.. Some say their brand say crystal nails cures with any lamp... So check this out.

Hopes that helps.

To me the whole shellac thing is like the hoover/vacuum cleaner thing.

A lot of people call vacuum cleaners hoovers, when in fact Hoover is the brand, not the product. Lots of companies make Vacuum Cleaners, but only Hoover make Hoovers! They were the first (or one of the first) to make them and that's where the name comes from, by the time other brands were popular the Hoover name had well and truly stuck!

It's similar with CND Shellac, it's one if the most well known names and it's just stuck, there are a lot of people calling all gel polishes Shellac regardless of who made them because they don't know any different, or lazy ;)

Hope that made sense :)

Ibd is a brand, cnd is also a brand and shellac is its product which ia a power polish. Where as ibds product is just gel and it is a gel polish.

Thanks girls that's great.
Does anyone know what the deal is with this cco shellac then?
It's just a copy of shellac? Is it crap?xx

Yeah. Just a cheap knock off.

Cco stands for carbon copy of.

They also do a Cco gelish :/

You'll mostly find them on ebay or amazon.

Also avoid buying shellac or gelish from Beverly beaute, ella gray and Taylor made nails, they're not authorised uk stockists and the get sent from abroad and you'll most likely get caught for customs charges x

Thanks that's great. I only want the best for my clients so thankyou for your help! As I don't have a clue about the nail side of where to buy things etc. So sweet squared/ellisons is the place for genuine shellac?x

I use the ASP signature which I get from Sallys Salon Services. The colours are great; no shrinking crinkling etc and they last yonks! My clients only come back to have them redone because of new growth; never due to chipping etc!
They don't have the biggest range of colours but Icon and Cuccio are the same brand so between them all there is a good colour range and the Signatures can also be mixed to make new colours :) xxx

Yes. Sweet Squared (shortened to s2 on here quite often) is the main distributor, ellisons are sub - distributor for s2. It's worth remembering that Ellisons do free delivery over £50 :) although if you buy from s2 then you can go on their shellac locator :)

Ooh that's very helpful thankyou. I like all the colours but is there some sort of chart to see them all at once as when I scroll down a page I forget them and want to see them all! God I didn't even think I would like nail stuff but I'm obsessed now!
So I've just looked at s2 what's the Cnd vinylux? Is that some sort of shellac or something different again?x

It's horribly addictive!!! Shellac is Soooo beautiful there are Soooo many that I want. I currently have about 20! Haha.

If you join s2 they'll send you a catalogue, other than that I don't think there's anywhere you can view them all at once x

Vinylux is cnds range of nail polish.

Vinylux is great. It doesn't require a base coat just 2x colour and top coat and massive bonus it is completely dry in 8mins. So for a polish it rocks!

Do you get people wanting the polish even though you have gel?x

Having polish is always great for people who work in industries where they aren't allowed their nails painted. People who work with food and I think nurses are two examples, it gives them nice nails that can be easily removed when they need to head back to work xx

Also people like me who like to mess about with different colours every other day, I do try to keep my Gelish on at least a week though xx

And also for pedis

That's brilliant thankyou for all the info! X

I use artistic colour gloss
