I'm so excited! I've finally ordered my Minx Kit, and can't wait to get started - does anyone have any hints and tips (apart from doing the training course, which i'm waiting to hear back about) to help me on my way?! And what are you charging for it?!

I charge £30 per set. I understand this is a little high compared to other geeks but I charge and I get.
As for tips...hmmm... have the crystal nail file to hand but file off excess with a fine grit file and then go over with crystal one. It's probably best you get your kit and try it first as I may as well be talking in gobble d **** lol xxx

Will give that a whirl! Thank you! Is it easy to get the hang of? Reading a few threads on here makes it seem quite tricky!

Another tip...dont do your first practice one in silver! They are a lil bit harder.
I found them really easy to apply. The first ones I did on myself. I have some pics in my album.
I think the hardest part was when I came across a client with huge toe nails and the Minx was too small. So I just cut it to match it up and it was fine. You will find some clients are easier to do that others. Also sometimes little toes can be tricky if theres not much there.
Ow chick..you will be addicted!! Good luck with it xxx

kylieb, i did my minx training two weeks ago, have not done toes as of yet, wondering what you mean you cut the minx up to fit the big toe, they come in thiose diff width strips so did ye have two strips evenly placed on the toe
sorry, my kit will be here early next week am keen to get started so.....any heads up tips would be great for the piggy toes ta !!!!!!!

Jennifer. what i do with huge toes is this:

i choose the biggest size and see how much more i need, then i cut a section slightly bigger than the smallest and do that one first. then, i lay the biggest section over the top. Normally, the smallest section is hardly noticable that way. Also, if they do have huge toe nails, i recommend a very wild print, like the flower one, i explain why (re seeing the two lines overlapping) I dont suggest a silver or gold.

anyway that seems to work great.

Also

second tip which gigi gave me as was struggling, is to dry prep. keep those toes as dry as possible.!

tigi

Hi Tigi,

Please could you explain better what you do when a clients toe nails are bigger than the minx pattern. Didn't get your explanation properly.

Thanks

tigi, thats great
am i right i saying
1- you size the biggest toe, the largest minx size available, then cut another width of minx smaller than the large one(??)
2-plae the smaller minx width on first
3- the larger toe minx on top so the overlap isnt too obvious
??

and opt for mad patterns rather than one colour??

and can i ask why dry prep- so it adheres better?
no scrub fresh, just file nail to shape, push cuticles bak and nip is necessary

-can ye put cuticle oil on at end??

Yes rockateer, don't match them up like wallpaper , don't put the seams together, instead overlap the largest piece . And don't go for designs that are highly shiny like silver
lightening . The overlap will be too obvious.

Prep. Push back cuticles ( don't use cuticle away, just push) use your cuticle
pusher to ge rid of debris on the nail
plate , buff nail with a 240 to remove shine, I do scrub fresh sparingly and then allow to dry for several minutes. Heat nail with infra red lamp. Then away you go! Do not soak that nail with scrub fresh . Be extremly sparing.

Another tip for larger toes, (courtesy of Fiona Wallace), is to size the minx widths ways rather than length ways.

This is a great tip from Fiona. If you use the Minx (plain designs anyway) from east to west rather than from North to South, you will not have a problem with larger than average toenails.

With designs, I have often applied a small strip down each side wall of the larger toenails and then applied the largest sized Minx down the middle overlapping each side piece ... This looks flawless on completion and no one would ever know.

Another tip is to join the Minx Lovers group here on the site. There are lots of photos and sharing of useful hints etc. Just click on Goups above and join in.

Thank you all---explanation is much much clearer to me now and my confidence has just suddenly sky rocket again.:):):)

I love this website, it's full of fantastically useful people! Thank you!

Thanks for the tips on the groups - am going to join now! Why don't folk deliver on a sunday?! Can't wait for my kit!

I had my minx training yesterday, was a little disappointed that the '2 hour' training turned out to be just an hour, would have liked more supervised practise tbh.

I had a go on myself last night with the funky flowers pattern and love it but found it's buckled a bit on the free edge and I'm worried it's going to come off very easily.

I practised on a friend today though and it was much easier - it's just much harder to get the technique right on yourself!

I did the training a few weeks ago and they've started to bring out new ones with bigger strips for the big toes as apparently there has been quite a few people where the biggest toe strip isn't big enough! They also suggested using them sideways if necessary (not always possible with some designs)! Also they recommended CND Cuticle Away to remove every possible bit of cuticle before application and I have to say it's marvellous stuff - even when you think there is nothing on the nail plate this always takes some more away! The CND Scrub Fresh is great too.
