Hello everyone,
My first post!! woohoo! :)

Im just about to start my exciting new career being a mobile sienna tanning tech, and i just wanted some advice about how to go about advertising or any offers that i can do to start to build up a client base. Or would it would be worth while to set up in a salon for a few days a week and paying to rent a room?

And also does just doing mobile tanning generate enough of an income all through the year, or does it get quiet through the winter?

Any advice would be great as im unbelievably new to this, and its a tad daunting not having a set wage for the first time in years!

As for all new business it takes time to build up a decent client base. Be patient and i'm sure the work will come in.

For myself, yell.com and word of mouth works the best.

Spray tan a few friends for a discounted price and let them be your walking adverts! Get them to recommend you.

My only quiet times for spray tanning are usually just after Christmas (when everyone is broke!)

good luck with your venture!

Hi Kim,

I probably wouldnt start renting just yet, unless of course it has loads of passing trade and the rent is dirt cheap. I have done a leaflet drop, ad in newspaper and the idea of spraying your friends as walking adverts is always a good one. Perhaps do an introductory voucher off (although alot of geeks dont really agree with it - as it appears to cheapen their services, but I found it worked for me just to give the client base a kick start). I also spent quite a bit of time registering with free advertising websites (just put it in google), the only thing with that is you have to then take phonecalls from a few of them trying to sell you a better advert, but if you are polite but blunt and say you have just started and to ring back in 6 months time, they will do (before they get into the swing of a sales pitch is the best idea !). We are also doing a couple of wedding fayre's with the bridal package (perhaps you could get a nail technician to do a package with you ??). There's lots of marketing ideas. If you do a search on this site you will have offers and marketing ideas coming out of your ears !! Best of luck with your new venture. xxx:hug:

Thank you so much for all your advice, im itching to get started now! I've been doing family and friends just to practice first of all at a really cheap rate just to cover costs. But im feeling little bit more at ease now. Think i may wait a little while to do a bride though, just to make sure im confident enough.
Those offer ideas sound great thanks!!!

Good plan Kim,
take it step by step and you will find you get there much faster than rushing into things.
get some experiance going and as your confidence builds then move onto the next step.
Good luck

When I just started I had to do a bride (thankfully my niece), I did her a couple of days before just to make sure it was perfect (it was !). Have confidence in yourself and enjoy. I love it now ! xx
